Larissa's Bookish Diary {Chapter FOUR} - Hire Me Maybe
Categories :
How I have missed writing these posts, even writing reviews, these past few weeks. I realised then that the best way to explain what has been Going on, is to write a new chapter in this virtual Diary hehe.
The short story is that I have just gotten a promotion at work.
The long of it, is that this was not an out-of-the-blue, wow-what-an-Awesome-surprise kind of thing. But before I get to the now, I need to go back a little bit.
I am almost 29 years old right now and I have been teaching English as a Foreign Language for almost 12. Yep, I started teaching when I was merely 17. The only time I have not thought was when I was living in Israel for 3 years and I took a different turn, career-wise, though I missed it immensely.
A while after I had come back to Brazil, early in 2011, I delved into my passion once again and with it came the opportunity of becoming a Junior Coordinator and being responsible for the Teens course of a Language institution.
However, I have never been the kind of professional to not have my eyes open and simply do my job without soaking everything in and learning from the People around me. Throughout the last year, I have learned a lot from my Senior Coordinator, who was responsible from the whole school and I have also grown a lot as a professional.
Therefore, when the time came that she had to leave, I knew I was ready to make the leap and take on that position. Something I had actually done whenever the situation arose and I had to fill in for her.
Of course, things didn’t really work out the way one would expect. Rumors started floating that someone else was set to start training and take over the position and everyone that works with me was livid. I ended up having a very good conversation with my bosses and they finally realized that I really wanted this opportunity and that I have what it takes for it. After all, they have always been extremely pleased with my work thus far.
All this to say that I have been away simply because I have been working like crazy and all and any free time I end up having I take it to rest my body and mind.
I have missed you guys!
Now, I would just love to hear your work/career woes!
Have you ever had to fight tooth and nails for a job or promotion you really wanted?
What happened?

**As of Today, Feb 24th, This Blog is an Award Free Zone!**
I am sorry! I LOVE the awards you give me and I wish I didn't have to do this, but my blogging schedule in general has not made possible for me to follow the requirements for the awards I receive.
Because of that, I feel that this is for the best.

Hey babes, long time no see (though you do have a very good excuse!)
Good luck with the job! And how fantastic that you're so passionate (and have been from a young age!) about what you do. That's enviable!
I'm actually in the publishing world, so I love my job too! I work for a great independent feminist publishing house - looking after their ebooks (something I am also passionate about).
It's funny that we're both in jobs we love. I think out generation, in general, is very different from our parents who looked for job security/good money/promotions etc, etc, etc, but essentially hated their job. Maybe we learned from their mistakes (or we're more selfish?) and it seems like Gen Y are less afraid of changing jobs, or of fighting hard for a job they love. Interesting, isn't it?
Danielle - hey hon! I have missed you! You are so right! our generation is much more invested in their passions than stability in a way. i am so glad to here you love what you do as well. It definitely makes those late night work sessions worth it LOL
Congrats Larissa on the promotion! Sounds like you work your butt off and it was much deserved!
I work for a bank and do not like what I do, but I love my benefits, hours and ADORE my co-workers. We are all pretty close and goof around most of the day, so it makes up for the work itself. I always like to hear when someone enjoys what they do!
Glad you're back!

Congratulations ↖(^▽^)↗ I hope your having fun with your new job - I miss you here in Israel though very much!
Congratulations. It sounds like you are qualified, trained, and know just what to do. You handled what sounds like it could have been a negative drama situation in a calm, reasonable manner and it looks like you are going to be rewarded as you deserve and I couldn't be happier for you.
