Hey everyone! I’d like to welcome to the blog today, author Jennifer Delucy. Jennifer writes the Light series for Omnific Publishing and I loved her books. Check out my interview with her and sign up for a chance to 1 of 3 ebook sets of the series thanks to Omnific (Thanks Micha!) or a Signed copy of Whisper of Light!
Enjoy!
- When did you first start writing?
I've been writing since I was just a little girl in one capacity or another. My first experience with professional writing was as an editor for a social organization back home when I was younger, and then in the past year or so I've been doing freelance edit work. I've also had two books published with more on the way. :)
- Have you always been interested in Romance?
Actually, no, but love stories have kind of become a symbolic tool for me when writing. I've never been one to read a lot of romances, to be truthful, but I am a passionate and romantic person with a deep spiritual philosophy about life, so I put my own slant on the genre so that it feels natural to me.
- What about in the Paranormal?
Now paranormal is right up my alley. If there's anything I've always loved it's a good scare, especially a psychological one that is plausible, believable, but just within the realm of something otherworldly. I definitely always liked the idea of writing supernatural elements.
- Why writing Paranormal Romance?
Again, I think that people really relate emotionally to a good love story, so I've found a way to incorporate spirituality and idealism and hope into these stories, along with some action and fun creepy stuff to keep you on your toes and make you think.
- Were there any Books, Movies or Writers that have inspired you?
Oh, definitely. JK Rowling is my hero in earth. Her writing touches my heart, because it's so genuine and natural. When I read her books I get the feeling that she understands words so well that she doesn't let ego or style muck up the story. Her characters stay with you because she lets each one take on a mind and personality of its own. She isn't melodramtic or purple. I also love Stephen King for a lot of the same reasons. His brand of scary is very mental, which I love.
- What is your favorite subject in the Paranormal Romance Realm?
By far, ghosts and the afterlife.
Favorites:
- Favorite Paranormal themed Movie?
Oh, man, the Harry Potter series, I think. Does witchcraft and wizardry count as paranormal? I think it does.
- Favorite Paranormal themed TV Show?
I'm a sucker for those ghost hunter documentary type shows, but I also love A Haunting on the Discovery channel. Oh, and I miss Buffy the Vampire Slayer more than I can say. Sniff.
- Favorite Paranormal themed Book?
The Stand. Hands Down. And the Harry Potter Series is a close second. Also, (and yes, I know I'm listing more than one book here), The Five People You Meet in Heaven is incredible.
- Favorite Author?
I think you know this already! But for the sake of certainty... JK Rowling.
- Favorite Paranormal Romance Author?
Hmm. Charlaine Harris. I really like reading the Southern Vampire Series. It's like comfort food.
- Favorite Genre that is NOT your own?
Does Oprah's book club count as a genre? Seriously, I love books that embrace life challenges and changes. It doesn't matter what genre.
- Favorite one of your Books?
Seers of Light is my favorite so far, simply because it was my first, so it holds a special place in my heart.
- Who is your favorite of your own characters?
Oh, geez. Wow. Well, I always have a very hard time answering this question, so, I'll go with a secondary character and say Anna. She makes me laugh.
- Which was the hardest to write?
The hardest to write... Okay, I really had to think about this one. But I'm going to say William Maddox. He's really complicated, because nothing is ever as face value as it seems with him. He keeps a lot inside, even from me, so I have to coax him a little.
- What would you be if not a writer?
A musician. Singing and writing music is just as much of a love of mine as writing. In fact, it's my goal to combine them both.
- If you Could be a Paranormal Being, Who would you be?
I believe that humans are paranormal beings, so I choose human. :) It would be fun to be a Sentient, though.
Quickies!
- Coffee or Tea? I honestly love both, depending on the mood. Coffee if it's iced.
- Up or Down? Up. Always up.
- Virtual or Real? Real.
- Day or Night? Night.
- Here or There? Here.
- Sooner or Later? Sooner!
- Light or Dark? Light
- Reading or Writing? Both at the same time. ;)
- What is your favorite part of the writing process?
The moment I fall into the story so deeply that I am feeling the emotions and living the adventures and can't tear myself away for even an instant. That moment is the best part of writing a story to me.
- What is your least favorite part?
Writer's block.
- The Light series in your own words?
The books of the Light Series are my way of inspiring readers, of reminding everyone, via the example of flawed by strong human beings, to live and love deeply, to think positively and to have faith in your own purpose.
- What is coming up next for you?
After the Light Series, I'm not positive, but I'm looking forward to finding out! It will likely be paranormal, though, of course.
- What are you working on right now?
Right now I'm working on book three in the Light Series, which takes the readers back to Lily--the protagonist from book one.
- Do you have any advice or tip to those like me that want to become a published Author someday?
Yes, a few. First, though it may seem obvious, make sure to have a good grasp on grammar, sentence/story structure and a well edited manuscript before you ever submit your work. Secondly, whatever you do -- DON'T give up. I mean it. We all have to live and learn, take our lumps, suck up constructive criticism and rejection and adjust accordingly, but don't give up, because faith + determination is the key to getting anywhere.
- Anything you would like to say to your fans out there?
Oh boy. *blush* Here's where I get sappy. I wish I could meet and hug everyone whoe reads and takes this series to heart, because I can't help feeling like anyone who does somehow takes a part of me with them. I feel connected, very strongly, to my reader friends and I'd love to get a chance to really travel around and meet you guys in person!
- Thanks so much for being here!
Thank you for having me! It was a pleasure. :)
