Abandoned by the world around her, Carly believes she is fated to a life of torment at the hands of her stepfather and is desperate for an escape. When she can bear the abuse no longer and gives in to a thunderous rage, she suddenly finds herself in an unfamiliar, yet beautiful, storm world. This limbo between dimensions appears to be her private sanctuary, but it may just be her purgatory. No one escapes fate without sacrifice, but is the price more than Carly is willing to pay?

I was intrigued by the synopsis although I was aware that the abuse side of this story could cause a few emotions in my reading experience. Yes it did and I felt sorry for Carly straight from the off and the story is told in more of a diary format so you can feel the emotion that she is going through. You also don't want her Stepfather to come to her room and I found myself shuddering at the thought. I wanted her to escape and her escape comes in the storm world where she meets Morgan. Carly is desperate for an escape, anyone would be but the beautiful conversations she gets from Morgan really tip this book from a girl looking for just an escape but into a world everyone would want to go to.
Medcalf creates a beautiful storm world where you can imagine the trees and the sky so vividly that you are there with her. I found this book beautiful but at the same point haunting, abuse is not something that you can just escape from and it's not something that can stop with a click of your fingers. The book is very short, more of a novella length and Medcalf manages to pack a lot into these pages, I didn't feel confused at anything that happened.
After I read it I wanted to know more about Carly and Morgan, I was never confused by anything in the book but I was left searching for more at the end. This book deals with a very tough subject, something that might never have affected you but it still causes your emotions to bubble up inside. This book will stay with me for a while yet.
