"Centuries ago, an Order was formed to protect a select group of women who possessed powerful magic. These witches, known as Caryphs, were called upon to fight demonic forces released on the earth in an effort to enslave humanity.
Regan Thompson is an inexperienced young college student whose life is suddenly ripped apart when she discovers she has inherited the powers of the Caryph. Like the others before her, Regan must somehow learn to harness the pure, raw magic that is buried deep within. But when a demon is set loose upon the earth, it is up to Order members Wendell and Alec to help Regan overcome her sheltered ways and quickly master her abilities in order to protect herself, her friends, and humankind."

Regan is just a college student with her eyes set on medical school when an older man approaches her on her job and says he has something to tell her about her biological parents. She goes talk to this man and from then on her life will never be the same.
Her best friend is murdered and the family that raised is in danger. Regan finds out she is a Caryph, an extremely powerful witch, descendant of the original 9 Caryphs that were created to maintain the balance between good and evil and fight Demons. Now Reagan must join the Order of the Caryph and learn to use her powers.
I really enjoyed Regan as a character and after a shaky start, this book got into a nice groove with great secondary characters being added and the action escalating exponentially.
There is also a nice romance between Reagan and one of her fellow Order members. The romance is pretty clear since the beginning and to be honest the delay in having something happen was a bit forced. It was pretty obvious they were gonna get together. I am looking forward to seeing the obstacles they might face in the future.
Towards the end it becomes clear the path this supposed series is going to take and I have to say I like it very much! There are more Caryphs out there and its up to Reagan to find them before the Demons. This is a very promising series and I recommend it to any UF and Fantasy lover out there.
