OOh nice picks! Most people I know have read Harry Potter so it wouldn't be one I could gift! Unless they needed the new covers! ;)
I can and do frequently give Gini Koch's Alien series as gifts. And as a plus, Gini is such a sweetheart that she will usually sign them for an extra special gift if you are willing to send the books to her and pay to and from shipping costs (really easy and cheap if you use USPS flat rate priortity boxes).
