But nothing can prepare him for the scandal of being ensnared by Elissande.
Forced into a marriage of convenience, Elissande and Vere are each about to discover that they’re not the only one with a hidden agenda. With seduction their only weapon—and a dark secret from the past endangering both their lives—can they learn to trust each other even as they surrender to a passion that won’t be denied ?

One of my very good GR friend suggested this book to me and I am very glad that I started reading it at once.
First, I'd like to admit that I really love Historical Romance's, I like the ones with heartache and difficult decisions, I like manupulative relatives and wicked lords.
Well this book has it all! Elissande is abused by her uncle probably most of her life, she lives isolated, carring for her sick aunt and her only way of escaping reality is reading travel books.
On the other hand we have Lord Vere!.... Lord Vere is a secret agent of the Crown hiding behind a silly persona in order to become undetected to the people he is investigating.
Elissande and Vere are masters at manipulation, lying to everyone around them has become a second skin, each one of them for different reasons they have embraced their different personalities for avoiding conflict with the reality
Their love story is beautiful and heartfealt with lots of tears and agony, but in the end the find the courage to dismantle of themselves and reveal the truth to each other.
Last I must let you know that Vere and Elissande have some very steamy sex and after reading this book I realy want to visit Capri!!!!!
