As I begin typing this review I should tell you that the book is currently free for the kindle via the link above. Quick. Go! I came across this book looking through the kindle freebies, I'm not the only one who does this surely?
Anyway the blurb above got me intrigued as you'll have seen from previous reviews I like an alternative to the vampire story.
The book is just over 100 pages and I read this in one sitting, one train journey. Now for a book to keep me intrigued in that time is still a big feat. I knew there was a part 2 of this series and I found myself thinking as I was reading "don't you dare leave me on a cliffhanger". My journey was just about an hour so I would have to wait to read part 2.
I've always been intrigued in hospital dramas, particularly ER. I think everyone finds doctors sexy don't they? Anyway our female lead Dr Toni Hollander has a new nurse Ben, a sexy new nurse. There is also the hot ex to add into the mix also but Ben and her have a real immediate connection. There are subtle hints about Ben, like how cold he is and how he seems to move so quick... yeah you know!
When she realises that he's not drinking tomato juice and that it is indeed blood in that glass she starts out on the journey that everyone would do when you find out the guy you like is a vampire. Of course she stays, of course she falls in love with him but she ends up being in danger because of it.
There are no steamy sex scenes despite it would have been quite easy to add them into this story. There is enough chemistry between the two to keep the reader turning pages. This was Lola James' first book and I was impressed. I have read part two and that review will come next week and I'm intrigued by her other series Fate's design also. This book just misses out on the full 5 loveys ranking as I would have liked a bit of the steamy stuff. Otherwise good first novel from an author who will be one to watch (read!)
