Letter to Self by Jennifer DeLucy
Dear teenage self,
Listen up, kiddo. There are some things you should know. And have an open mind here, okay?
First of all, it’s not always going to be so hard. I promise you! And I know life is absolutely insane right now, but it won’t last forever. So have hope. Even if people don’t seem to notice or care, there’s a force in this universe that has your back and, believe it or not, it’s sewing seeds and working miracles in your life even now—especially now—that will take you on great and inspiring journeys.
Secondly, everything you think you know at this point, everything you think you think…it’s all going to change in ten years, so do yourself a favor and try something for us—I want you to lighten up a little bit. Seriously. And I want you to rebel more. And I want you to believe that your instincts, even the ones that seem contrary to what you’ve been taught, are good. Speak your mind. Sneak out and have fun more. Think your own thoughts. They’re not the enemy—they’re a gift you’ve been afraid to use. And the sooner your start embracing them, the better.
Lastly, but most important of all, start loving yourself. And I mean vehemently, passionately loving yourself. Stand up for yourself, believe with every ounce of strength in the goodness of your spirit and spread that belief to others. You are so much more than you can even understand—we all are. So be patient with yourself, be open at all times, be compassionate and be true to you. Love yourself first and most, and the rest will come naturally. You are more than good enough. Repeat that every day until you believe it, because every human has an unfathomably cool purpose. You included.
Enjoy your life! That’s what’s for.
Lots of love,
Your Older Self
