I do enjoy a good mystery thriller and the blurb for this one had me hooked before I had even turned a page. With our main character Nick off to solve murders he was leaving behind a former girlfriend who of course then follows him to Minnesota. Of course she does! He's now with someone else, younger obviously! Kathy then starts dating one of Nick's colleagues, oh the drama! So now he has unsolved murders at the hands of a serial killer and he has his present and ex girlfriend around. Then comes the added drama of having to protect them both and then they go missing...
As much as I joked above with the obvious story lines it's good to read a mystery book with a relationship tangle involved. That said, this could have caused the writer to trip up with the two story lines but she doesn't and in fact it aids the story more. Nick becomes more human, more real and you end up in some weird way being quite taken to him. He's battling a lot of stuff and somehow he seems strong and you really want to get to know more about him.
As well as being a good mystery thriller it's also a romance story and a very good one. The characters are well described and there is a lot of information to take in, especially in the first chapter that you might get a bit lost as to where the story is going. Stick with it and you won't be disappointed. The book is quite short for an average thriller but this doesn't stop this from being an intelligent and informative read.
