I don’t know how many of you are aware of this, but this blog started out back in 2007 as simple personal blog. My idea was to share my misadventures whilst being a brazilian girl, living in Israel. I could never be very constant with posting, especially since I had no audience to write to, so I just wrote a few posts through those first 2 years of this blog’s life, but I am extremely proud of them! If you guys want to take a look at my earlier stuff, check out the “Getting Personal” tab =D There I tell funny and weird stories and even pour my heart out many of times.
I bet right now you are wondering, why the hell am I writing about this and what is this post about, aren’t you?
Well, the thing is that I hate the fact that I have been letting the blog slip. I miss the days when I had 3 or 4 reviews a week, not to mention other posts I had a lot of fun writing. However, as many of us bloggers know, real life sometimes gets in the way and as much as we love reading and blogging, we do have other responsibilities that come first.
When I first started Book blogging, I was simply a student and I had much more control over my free time, so I tended to read as many as TWO books a day when possible and I could make the choice to just blow off classes. As an example of my obsession at the time, my book reading record was 365 books in 2009. Something I am well aware I cannot do again LOL.
Nowadays, I have a very steady and busy job, where I am constantly on demand and many kids and teens depend on me. I LOVE my job, but my reading and blogging time have been cut down so much that it makes me sad at times. One of the things I have missed the most is the exchange of thoughts between me and my readers.
That is why I decided to create this new feature. This will be like a diary for me, a place where I can share thoughts, ideas, stories, books and my journey/battle to lose weight and be healthier. I will also leave questions bellow each post and will try to incorporate your answers in the following post... How does that sound?
I don’t plan to write daily, but it will be more constant than once a week and I hope you guys will enjoy my random thoughts and stories =)
Chapter ONE Questions:
Have you ever struggled against being overweight?
Have you gone on a diet?
How do you feel about dieting?
Thanks so much for tuning in and I’ll see you soon!
xoxo,
First off CONGRATULATIONS on losing 20lbs, that's incredible!! I struggle greatly with my weight, I'm not very much overweight, but my body image is horrible. I've been going on diets since I was around 12 years old but nothing really seemed to work. I've tried the gym too, but they the diet fell through. I always catch myself saying things like 'I'd be happy if I lost 60lbs' which is sad, but hopefully I'll learn to stop soon. I love this personal post idea that your doing now, can't wait for next week!
What a great idea! But then again, it's you, I'm talking about, super innovative and uber kewl! I never have had a problem with weight until my last pregnancy. Ugh, the horror! After having 3 kids and getting back in the saddle afterwards, I believed the same was going to be true. NOT! The fourth was the charm.(He is an adorable pain in the butt.) It's not something that is constantly on my mind, until I go clothes shopping. In my mind I'm still a size 4, but in reality I need a bigger mirror in the dressing rooms! Ha! ha! I'm finally losing the baby weight, kids bigger and now there is more ME time. My eldest daughter and I wake up early on the weekdays and exercise, 5 AM. It sets the pace for the whole day, I'm currently playing the color game with my food. Whites are out in any food group, the more color the merrier, the darker the healthier. I treat myself at the end of every month with something NEW and a night out. It's so funny how we see ourselves in our mind's eye and how we look on the outside. My sexy mind is at war with my not so sexy bod. Lots of hugs and if you need any healthy smoothie recipes, holler, I'm the queen of smoothies! PS. I've shown all my pals my new header in the works, You Rock!
So ironic. I was thinking of including my weight loss journey on my blog too...at the very least put in a little chart. I admire you so much for being so open and congrats on losing 20 pounds. That's incredible! I lost 30 pounds a few years ago on Weight Watcher then I stopped going and yup, gained it all back. I started Weight Watchers again just recently and it's harder this time. So, I've really got to learn just to eat better and exercise more! Great Feature Larissa!
@Katie
I have always had the same struggles! In the next post I will talk about my weight roller coaster with more depth LOL
@Dana
Thanks hon! Im sohappy you liked the concept! And thanks so much for the constant support!
@Midnyte Reader
I've been through the exact same problem! I think you should totally do it! The support is a great way to keep going! Xoxo
I love, love, LOVE this idea!
Ah, good old uni days. I remember when I'd roll over in bed, see that it was raining and decided to listen to my lectures on podcast :) those were the days. Stupid work getting in the way of our precious reading-time!
I think this is a wonderful idea, Larissa, and I look forward to following your entries :)
Congrats on the weight loss! I'm currently trying to do the same thing and it's definitely not easy. 20 is great and I wish you the best luck :-)
Congrats! You're off to a great start with your diet. Keep it up! I'll all to aware of how hard it can be to jungle work, your personal life and blogging/reading. Anything that helps you find balance is a good idea in my books!
@Danielle
LOL so true! Thise days were the best! so glad you guys like the idea! Hehe
@Paranormal Haven
It's a constant and daily struggle trying to lose weight! I'll tell more of my story next post, but my journey has been full of so many bumps LOL
@Carmel
Finding a balance is SO freaking hard! But im glad I decided to start this feature, I already LOVE the response and if we can help each other in different ways, it will be an awesome bonus!
*high five* Congrats on 20 pounds! I've been overweight for 2/3 of my life and my self esteem suffers horribly because of it. I've tried dieting on my own, but hubs and the kids only like the high calorie/artery clogging food, and we just can't afford for me to buy separate food. My only real plan of attack is to eat less, but that doesn't work so well. Good luck with your journey!
@Theresa
*high five* yeah, thats the worst about being overweight, the low self-esteem. i have always sufeered with that. The last time I lost a lot of weight, I had to make some attitude changes, losing weight is not enough, we have to work it out in aour heads as well... It is such a difficult process... So gruelling!
I am just in awe of the 2 books a day thing. One a day I can manage but not 2
@Blodeuedd
Lol yeah, that was def a feat hehe
Congrats on your new feature and I will be cheering you on in your journey to be healthier :) Woot! (that is me cheering )
Ahh, weight loss.... If you are going to try it, I think the most important thing is to accept that there is never an end point. It doesn't do any good to do a drastic diet to try to lose, because if the diet is something that you can't live with for the rest of your life, ultimately, you'll go right back to the bad old ways of eating and gain it back, and that's almost worse than never losing it in the first place.
The best thing to do is to make small changes that you think you can keep up forever. For example, don't try to totally give up sugar, or fat, or whatever. You'll NEVER make that stick. Instead, just try to limit it to one small bit per day, or a few times per week. That way, you are not totally depriving yourself of something you love. My favorite things are the "whites" - bread, pasta, potatoes, etc. There's no way I can give them up completely, so instead I just try to limit them. Pasta and potatoes just a couple of times a month, bread, well, I eat more of that than I should, but I do try to stick to just one piece when I eat it. Best wishes to you, it's something we all struggle with.
@Sharon lol thanks so much for the support hon!
@Jen! i hear you! i have been through that and now Im finally taking the slow route hehe
AWESOME feature Larissa! I've been puttering with the idea of including more personal information about myself on my blog and your post gave me the courage to go for it. I just posted my first one this morning. To answer your questions...
Have you ever struggled against being overweight? Yup, I'm currently struggling with this one. I think this may be a topic for next week:) I LOVE all the foods that are bad for me! ;)
Have you gone on a diet? I've never been on a hardcore diet but I'm seriously thinking about it. I recently found the webpage sparkpeople.com and so far it's been a really great resource.
How do you feel about dieting? If it was easy everyone would be doing it right?! I have a love hate relationship with dieting. I LOVE to HATE it. But the end results are what keep you going.
I'll be your buddy if you'll be mine :)
@JR YAY you should totally do it!
Thanks for sharing hon and I'll totally be your buddy too! :)
I am on my way trying to lose some weight and I love this feature.
