Hello dear readers!
I have the pleasure of having here today, Elisabeth Naughton, author of the Eternal Guardian series!
TEMPTED, the third book in the series, is coming out TOMORROW and Elisabeth is stopping by to talk a bit about the series, the books and to offer an awesome giveaway to U.S./Canada and International Readers alike!
Don’t forget to check out her Giveaway at the end of her post!
Enjoy!
Thanks so much to Larissa for inviting me to stop by. And Happy Labor Day to those of you in the U.S.!
I’m so excited to be here to tell you about my new release, TEMPTED, and even more excited that readers are enjoying the book so much already. It’s only been out for a few days (already available at most online sites) but I’m already getting fan mail and readers emailing me to find out details about the NEXT book. As an author, that totally makes my day, especially when I hear how excited readers are about the series. Because the series grows from one book to the next (though you can totally pick up TEMPTED and figure out what’s going on without reading the first two) and characters reappear from past books, readers can’t seem to get enough. And, of course, I love that!
TEMPTED is one of those books that wasn’t supposed to be. Well, to be honest I’ll say it was supposed to be, just with a different hero. My series is comprised of seven different warriors, each linked to a different hero from Greek mythology. And from the moment I wrote the first book, MARKED, there has always been this extra guy hanging on the edges…one who is linked to my Guardians but who no one can quite understand. Initially, he—Nick—was the hero I thought would wind up with Isadora, the princess of Argolea and the heroine in TEMPTED. They just had this chemistry I could feel vibrating through the keyboard. But there was also another guy, a Guardian—Demetrius—who was cruel and condescending to Isadora and who also had this same chemistry with her but in a very different way. Readers realized Demetrius was Isadora’s hero long before I did, and it wasn’t until the middle of book two (ENTWINED) that I realized they were right.
I often write things and figure out later how they work (I call it the magic of writing). After I figured out Demetrius had to be Isadora’s hero, suddenly everything became clear. I knew instantly why he’d been so mean to her in the first two books. And that knowledge gave me chills because it was soooo good. But still…on the edge…there was this guy…Nick. And this chemistry he still had going with Isadora. What the hell was that?
I’m not a fan of love triangles and I don’t write them (or try not to), so getting ¾ of the way through TEMPTED and still not understanding how Nick figured in to the whole thing was rough. And then one day (again, that magic of writing) everything clicked. Nick is an integral part of this series so you’ll see more of him in future books, but now at least I understand how and why. And now at least I understand how he’s linked to Isadora. Some readers won’t be happy with the way I left Nick’s storyline hanging at the end of the TEMPTED, but I think most will agree it makes for good conflict for future books. And Isadora and Demetrius…after you read their book you’ll understand just as I did why they were meant for each other.
DEMETRIUS—He’s the hulking, brooding warrior his fellow Guardians avoid. Too dark. Too damaged. And given his heritage, he knows it’s best to keep everyone at arm’s length.
Isadora is missing. The words pound through his head like a frantic drumbeat. For her own protection, Demetrius did all he could to avoid the fragile princess, his soul mate. And now she’s gone—kidnapped. To get her back, he’ll have to go to the black place in his soul he’s always shunned.
As daemons ravage the human realm and his loyalty to the Guardians is put to the ultimate test, Demetrius realizes that Isadora is stronger than anyone thought. And finally letting her into his heart may be the only way to save them both.

I have been surprised sometimes when two characters I thought would be together, don't end up that way! Tempted looks great!

Yes I have. In Jennifer Estep's Elemental Assassin series, it looked like Gin was going to be with Donovan Caine, and I was surprised when it didn't work out, but now I'm glad it didn't.
Barbed1951 at aol dot com
I was surprised in Rachel Vincent's Shifters series with who Faythe picked, I always thought she would end up with the guy she didn't pick, I won't ruin it for others by saying who.
bookdevoteereviews(at)hotmail(dot)com
I'm usually pretty good at picking couples, but occasionally I will be surprised.
marlenebreakfield(at)yahoo(dot)com
I have been surprised by character hook-ups, lets see, there were a few in the Chicagoland Vampire series by Chloe Neill, elemental assassins by Jennifer Estep, Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris...yep, there are definitely romantic surprises all around... Anyhow thanks so much for the contest, I have been wanting to read this series for awhile, but just haven't had the chance! Book Savvy Babe

I've run across a few series that I felt that two characters should have been together then they get with someone else. 9 times out of 10 I agree with who they ended up with in the end but every so often I have to wonder why. Hunger Games was one that I agreed with, Harry Potter also.

Yes, in the Sookie Stackhouse series. But I approve of it. XD Thanks for this giveaway! I've been wanting to read this series for a while. :)
un3xpectedfate[at]hotmail[dot]com
I have been surprised at secondary couples who later get their HEA with a mate that I would not have guessed. Most of the stories that I read are series but each book could stand alone. The biggest surprises I have found were when I thought couples should end up together but did not for some reason when they get their HEA.
manning_j2004 at yahoo dot com
That actually never happened to me xD I´m always guessing right xD Or I just have a luck :) (or I just can´t remember right now xD) That is why I like when write surprised me at least in other way, like the end.
Wait. I remember now :D In Anita Blake I was surprised when she had more that one guye...
Thank you so much for the international giveaway♥
Rathouska(dot)jana(at)gmail(dot)com
I've read books before where I wasn't exactly sure who the love interest was at the beginning but it sort of cleared up midway thru.
In Geist i was like "please don't tell me that Sorcha & Merrick are going to be a couple! but luckily it soon become obvious that that was NOT the case *relief*
thumbelinda03@yahoo.com
Hmm I can't think of any on the op of my head but I'm sure there have been some secondary characters that I was like what?! LOL But no books come to mind atm.
queen_tui at hotmail dot com
No that hasn't happened to me so far that I ever remember. I just like to go with the flow when I'm reading anyway!

Yes I can remember being surprised quite few times but I just can't remember the books or the names except, of course, as the first commenter said Harry and Hermione in the Harry Potter books.
Thanks for the giveaway and for making space for Internationals to enter.
Much appreciated.

That's never happened to me thought it might for Paris's (LOTU) story, As far as I know Gena hasn't let it known if he will get with Sianna.

I really couldn't think of any but reading through the comments, I was like oh yeah! Sookie Stackhouse, Gin Blanco, ummm... Now Jax in Ann Aguirre's series...
I have these books on my wishlist! Thanks for the great post and giveaway!
efender1@gmail.com
Yesand it bummed me out cuz I was Rootin for them! But I got over it. Oh and in the Georgina Kincaid series I wanted Roman to get with her, but... I guess that didn't quit work out. Allwell, Seth was my next best choice.

yes they someone else said in Harry Potter and sometimes we don't don'teven knw whats good for ourselfs. Thanks Joannie jscddmj [at]aol[dot]com
Can't say that I have gone into a book expecting certain characters to hook up. However, I have been disappointed when a couple have hooked up and I did not feel the connection.
kamwh1207(at)att(dot)net
I always thought Harry and Hermione should have ended up together, and there are a few odd couples in Aprillyne Pike's book. I would love to win these books, thank you so much for the chance! edysicecreamlover18@gmailDOTcom
I have been surprised when 2 characters I thought would get together dont. Please enter me in contest. I would love to read this series. Tore923@aol.com
Yes, I have been surprised before! I agree completely about Harry Potter, but also the Sookie Stackhouse books (although I'm not completely caught up on that series, so I could be wrong)!!

Thank you for the giveaway Elisabeth.
I am an international reader and I would love to get a chance to read the books.
And to answer your question, yes loads of times. Cause sometimes I seem to like those pairings which in no way will end up together. It's just that the awesome authors writes these characters so well together that I can't help but hope that they will end up together. *sigh*
Thank you for the fun giveaway opportunity. I have often read a series where I just knew the characters were going to end up together and they did not. I have to say, as much as I thought they should be together,it made for a much more interesting story when they did not. I have not read any of the books in this series and would love to:)
dz59001[at]gmail[dot]com
Cassie, from the Cassie Palmer series by Karen Chance, seems to be headed towards Mirceau, but I would love to see her end up with John Pritkin.
caity_mack at yahoo dot com
You are a new author to me. I have read books that seemed to pair two of the characters that when all is said and done aren't meant for each other. I agree with another commenter... Harry Potter was one... Sometimes the transition is difficult...
Thanks for the giveaways!
lindalou(at)cfl(dot)rr(dot)com
As others have said Harry Potter & Hermione Granger, otherwise no. I saw the match up coming & it happened.
marypres(AT)gmail(DOT)com
Us readers of Black Dagger Brotherhood know of those pairings, i´m just saying Blay and Quinn and i´m sure you´ll be able to hear all the sighs and moans out there =) They´ve been mooning for each other in a lot of books and their ending isn´t in sight, yet. The word is they won´t even get their own book, maybe just a novella =/
best wishes, Linda xoxo
I don't know about Harry Potter, since I can't see Harry with anyone, or another character with anyone, lol, so that's not a big problem for me
Yes, I once found this at Lords of The Underworld series by Gena Showalter. After the end of The Darkest Lie, I suspect Haidee will be paired with Strider, since there's some hint about their pairing. Imagine my surprised when Haidee is paired with Amun, and while fans want Amun with Kaia, Gena pair her with Strider! I once ask about this to Gena via Twitter, she said its a hard decision, but must do it, because its the best for her characters :)
Thanks for the giveaway!

No, right now I can not think of 2 characters I thought would be together and ended up not being together.
Thanks for the giveaway!!
Anne
Sure! I don't mind that actually, when the author throws a curve-ball and things down turn out the way the reader expects! It keeps things exciting, I think! Sometimes, it's disappointing...but for the most part, I don't mind.
Thanks for the giveaway!
darlenesbooknook at gmail dot com
Yes I have been in many books, but there is usually a very good reason they didn't end up together. Most writers explain why or elude to why they didn't make a great couple. I love that twist sometimes.
macladie25 AT Yahoo dot com
In Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series, I was worried for the longest time that SK would wind up permanently leaving Acheron with Artemis. I would have been devastated and she played it very close to the vest. Drama! Thanks for the giveaway Larissa and Elizabeth.

Yes Pia Thomason does NOT exactly get her man in Zen and the Art of Vampires, by Katie MacAlister.
Thanks for the contest. lisagk(at)yahoo(dot)com
I was so upset when Pierce showed up to be Rachel's love interest (Kim Harrison's series). The only previous mention of Pierce was in a short story that took place when Rachel was a teen, not in any of the full-length novels.
ironss [at} gmail [dot] com
Yes, although none of them have been romances. I blame the way I read--through romance-tinted glasses!

Yes, that the succubus in Richelle Mead's series didn't some how overcopme the difficulties and marry her human (I forget their names). I haven't read the last book yet...so it still might happen.

Hi Elizabeth,
I love this series.Looking forward to Tempted. I can't think or should I say can't remember right now what book or characters should or shouldn't have hooked up but I 'll definitely agree with the Harry and Heroine situation. Thanks for the opportunity.

I'm reading book 2 of Kris Cook's Eternally 3 series. I really expected a couple from book 1 to be featured in book 2 but they are not. I have a feeling things are building up between then and eventually they'll be featured in a book...I Hope!
Thanks,

The series I can think of quickly is the Love Triangle in the Twilight series; Harry Potter of course and then Showalter's Lord's series. I love it when the "writing magic" happens :-) glittergirl54 at ymail dot com
Yes, more than once!
Sugerlady@aol.com
I'm currently reading Jane Rylon's Razors edge Boy in Blue Book 2.
I love series if they drawn waiting forever for the next book. I once waited 2 years for an author, and forgot the first 2 books and what they were about.
I don't kind curve balls as long as fit into the story line and plot and character and sin;t way out there somewhere.
thanks for the contest and I loved the first one so much, and wont to read the rest.

Yes, Gena Showalter does it a lot to me actually in her Lords of the Underworld series. First when Haidee was introduced, I thought I saw sparks between her and Strider.....but then she ended up with Amun. And Cameo and Torin! Torin's my fave in the series and I thought that perhaps, seeing the relationship he and Cameo have, he'd end up with the beautiful, miserable woman, but Gena has spoken often how they won't be each other’s HEA.
I'm disappointed by this, but not heartbroken. Hey. It means I get an extra book---I'm not complaining ;)
Thanks for making this international--it means a lot =D

Yes I have and at first I wasn't sure if I liked them with the other person or not but the more I read the better they seemed together.

Sorry about that!
YES! Gena Showalter's The Darkest Secret and the upcoming release The Darkest Surrender is the biggest one for me.
Kaia and Strider and Anum and Haidee. *sigh* I was very verrrrrrrry disappointed with that because in the The Darkest Lie, I thought Strider and Haidee had amazing chemistry. But in the end, Anum and Haidee turned out to be very good.

I'm very much looking forward to Demetrius' book. Congratulations!
vsloboda(at)gmail(dot)com
No I haven't, or atleast can't think of any, though it's probably only a matter of time. Usually you can sort of tell that the author is setting up two characters together (or there aren't any other romantic interests). Although I did read the Gemma Doyle trilogy by Libba Bray and ****major spoiler alert!!!**** in the books there was this guy that kept helping the main character and there was like romantic tension and I pretty much expected them to end up happily together but instead he died! Right at the end! Anyway, thanks for the giveaway, this series looks awesome. I'm international :)

Of course the first one that comes to mind is Harry Potter. And of course Sookie Stackhouse.

No, I haven't read any book where that happens, though I think I'd like to. I like surprises once in a while.

I've only seen it twice where couples that I were expecting to get together didn't. It is sad because you are hoping that it will happen. Great contest.

Yes, this happens to much to me (When knowing, or at least honestly believing they belong together). But you never know what is going to happen, there are reasons the authors didn't have those people become a couple...
See, I understand that, but sometimes it would have been nice for them to "Hook up" even for a short time!
emilytardy@yahoo.com
Yes, recently I read a book where I thought two secondary characters would end up together. Her fiance' was a total butt, and the other guy really looked out for her. But he died in the story so it totally sucked!
I loved the first two books in this series. Cant wait to read Tempted.
I have had that happen. And lucky for me I thought it ended up for the best or else I would have been really unhappy.

I can't really think of a time when I didn't guess the HEA's of a book. But then, there's been so many that I can't remember them all. I can't wait to get my hands on this book!

I want to read Tempted soooo bad! I've never had that happen to me. every series I've read, The two characters I wanted to get together got together! Thank you so much for the giveaway!!

Yes, that's happened a few times with some UF books I've read and some YA's that have triangles. I love being surprised and though I may not agree with the choice at first, the character in question always wins me over
