Times are hard for newly minted vampire Merit. Ever since shapeshifters announced their presence to the world, humans have been rallying against supernaturals--and they're camping outside of Cadogan House with protest signs that could turn to pitchforks at any moment. Inside its doors, things between Merit and her Master, green-eyed heartbreaker Ethan Sullivan are ... tense. But then the mayor of
Chicago calls Merit and Ethan to a clandestine meeting and tells them about a violent vamp attack that has left three women missing. His message is simple: get your House in order. Or else.
Merit needs to get to the bottom of this crime, but it doesn't help that she can't tell who's on her side. So she secretly calls in a favor from someone who's tall, dark, and part of underground vamp group that may have some deep intel on the attack. Merit soon finds herself in the heady, dark heart of Chicago's supernatural society--a world full of vampires who seem too ready to fulfill the protesting human's worst fears, and a place where she'll learn that you can't be a vampire without getting a little blood on your hands...

*Contains Minor Spoilers from the previous books in the series.
Merit is back and not long has passed since the events of
Twice Bitten, where her long expected romance with master Vampire, Ethan, went haywire and left all of us gobsmacked and even kind of pissed.
Our heroine finally has her best friend back in full force, but Ethan has regretted his decision to end the relationship and is relentlessly courting Merit. Of course, now Merit is very afraid to let herself be sucked into it all once more just to get hurt and so the will-they-won’t-they dance starts again.
On the action side of things, the shifters have come out of the closet for the public and it is not going well. The notoriety the Vamps earned since they first came out is fading and a series of vamp killing might be what will not balance things out to the positive.
I have to say that Hard Bitten is my favorite book in the series so far. I feel that Chloe has grown so much as writer and her characters are definitely growing right along with her. Merit is becoming the heroine I knew she could be and even Ethan is turning into the Hero I always hoped he was. Mallory and Catcher are the same amazing duo they have always been in my eyes and the rest of the secondary characters help make this Chicago of Chloe’s creation, even more real.
Hard Bitten is also a book full of twists and turns that will leave you with a dizzy spell and not sure which way is up. The ending is a heartbreakingly hard one to read and I just can say that Chloe has better have something up her sleeve or I’ll never forgive her for this.
All in all Hard Bitten is a fantastic piece of Urban Fantasy, the best is a very good series, with serious character development, outstanding plot and action packed. If you have yet to read this series, I absolutely recommend you give it a shot =)

xoxo,
I really wish I liked these books, because the covers are pretty awesome. I read 1-2 and hated everything, from Merit's name to the Hogwarts-style Frat Houses. Urgh.
