The invaders thought they had crushed humanity. They messed with the wrong species.
An Impulse Power story.
Francine Beaumont is tired. Tired of waiting for an armada of Imber ships to finish off what’s left of humanity. Tired of fear and privation. Tired of living like a rat, feeding off what scraps the cat lets her have.
When the chance comes to hit the Imbers where it really hurts—right at their fuel supply—she takes it. One stealth cruiser. One pilot. A cargo hold filled with explosives. A suicide mission for sure, but better that than doing nothing.
As the ship’s cook, John O’Shaughnessy knows everything that goes on aboard the warship. And something is definitely up with his Frankie. If she thinks he’s going to let her carry out this crazy plan of hers alone, that stubborn woman has another think coming.
Frankie thinks she’s gotten away clean…until her instincts tell her she’s not alone on her mission. Still, it’s a shock to find her peace-loving John standing there with eyes that spell murder. Now is a hell of a time to discover they’re more than friends. But there’s no turning back…

Francine is in charge of a fleet of ships and she's bored waiting for something to happen so she decides to have an adventure of her own. The ships had left Earth when aliens had come and attacked and so the humans had fled. She takes her chance with a ship and a cargo full of explosives and sets out on her somewhat suicidal mission but she's not alone. The chef is with her! John knows a lot about the ships and he is willing to help. Of course they start to find out they are more than just friends and on this mission? Big whoops!
This story is quite a short story but it's packed full of dialogue and the characters are described in enough detail to keep you engaged. We know where the story is heading but Francine and John really have no idea, I kind of wanted to shout at them at one point and say "Hello guys, now come on!".
I've been reading a lot of vampire type stuff recently which has had quite a lot of sexual scenes and this all starts to heat up right at the end and then... it ends. The cover had me thinking there would be a bit of a sexual mention but no. Don't be fooled like I was.
If you're after a Science Fiction romance then this is for you. A great read nevertheless

Hm... there are times when I want more of a science-fictiony type of read. I might like this. I don't care for the cover and might have passed it up otherwise. Oh thanks for the recommendation!
Oh this is a short one isn't it! Sounds like there's still a great story and some solid characters worked in even in so short a time. Nice review:)
