Hello Everyone!!! Sunday is here and it’s time for another Top 5! YAY!
This week’s results:
UF or PNR Pet Peeves! = 19 (73%)
Best Outfits in a Book! = 7 (26%)
The theme for today is:
UF or PNR Pet Peeves!
But first, a little bit about this feature and the rules to join in…
Every Sunday I will post a TOP 5 list on the blog. It can be about anything and every week I'll have a new theme {You can vote on next week’s theme on my left sidebar!} and I will ad the Mr.Linky bellow the post so you can do a list with the theme and add you link to it.
Rules:
- Write a post listing your TOP 5 choices within the theme I chose (or was chosen on a poll) for the week.
- Mention this Blog on the post and link back to it.
- Fell free to use the Feature's image (there is a smaller size version of it bellow)
- After you've finished your post, add you link (of the post, not your blog's main page) to the Mr.Linky at the end of that week's post.
- If you don’t have a blog to post, just leave your list in the comments =)
This week’s theme is UF or PNR Pet Peeves!
Hmmm this was a fun and hard one to think about =)
A lot of my PNR pet peeves work for UF as well, so that really helped hehe =)
*in no particular order
The Headless Torso PNR Covers:
Ok, so I like a nice ripped abs as much as the next red-blooded woman, but there is such thing as too much.
I think it has come to a point that unless the book has great reviews. is in a series I love or is very well recommended, I’ll probably skip it if it has such a cover.
The Too Stupid Too Live Heroine {TSTL}
She whines, annoys and pretty much makes me wish the secondary characters in a series had more screen time. =/
Weird or Unpronounceable Character Names:
I usually like unique names like Bones, Curran, Kisten. If nothing else, because they avoid a conversation like:
A: I Love John!
B: John #1 or John #2?
I mean, that never happens when it comes to Curran or Sholto! However, if is very frustrating when you can’t even pronounce the character's name out loud and I that had been bothering me specially since me and Jackie started Bookish Escape. We want to talk about a certain character and sometime we can’t even say his/her name LOL
Examples: Xhex, Fearghus, Annwyl, Morfyd, Talaith, Gwenvael, etc.
Too Complicated Sexual Positions or the “Too-many-limbs” Syndrome:
Have you ever read a sex scene in PNR or UF and thought: “How the Hell did they do THAT?” or “Hmmm I Think there is one arm too many in this scene to make sense”
Well, I have and to be quite honest, that is soooo annoying!
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all in for a different sex scene like in Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress World series, but if the sex is so complicated that it distracts me from the hotness or the meaning of it, that is a step too far in my opinion.
Awkward / Unnatural Positions in PNR Covers:
I know that they are trying to be sexy, but… They are NOT!
There are some amazing PNR covers out there that ARE sexy, but these awkward poses above are just weird. Well, the forth one is not THAT weird, but it is a bit unnatural for me.
Attention! – Please HELP!

xoxo,
Oh gosh Larissa!
This is hands-down the most hilarious Top 5 of yours I have read before... And the thing is, every word of this is true!
Thanks for the laugh!
;)
@Avery
YAY! Thanks! =)
The sex positions thing made me laugh. I remember when I started reading PNR books and I kept trying to picture what was going on and I just couldn't.
I don't mind all the abs though. I guess because my personal library is heavy on the YA so it doesn't seem like a lot when my UF/PNR shelf is so empty.
And I like the way J.R. Ward does most of the names in her books. Xhex bothers me, but other than that I think the rest are okay. I'm probably just easy to please though.
Very funny post though. :)
Great picks! Borrowed one of your ideas and some steamed off 1 or 2 of your others!
This was harder than I thought it would be since not too much bothers me about the books. Usually it's just the covers, which I don't try to judge too much!
Love the post! So very many irritating things, but so little space to list them all!
@Kim
Thanks! =) Glad you enjoyed it!
and I agree, I have a hard time picturing the sex in PNR sometimes LOL
@Jessica
it was much harder than I thought it would be LOL
@Julia
LOL Thanks! =D
LOL!! I agree with you on all of it! And that sex picture is killing me!! ROFL!
The Too Stupid Too Live Heroine {TSTL} - that title was made for Bella Swan! lol!
@Smash
LOL thanks =P
@Danielle
Totally agree! LMAO
ROFL! Love this one. Now, I didn't think Bella was quite that bad, but ugh! I do hate the TSTL heroine. :P I do admit, however, the BDB names did start to grow on me. I was one to groan at them the first time I picked up that series. lol
Oh an the complicated smexy position... Still, interesting to read about! ;) Plus that pic... LOL
I hate when we have a characters name that I can't pronounce and every time I go back to that chatracters name I spend like a minute trying to pronounce their name. But I like different and unqiue characters names b/c Gabriel, Jay, etc, gets kinda boring and I may think of those names from other books I have read. I love the names Curran and Bones!!!
Like the only way I know if I'm pronouncing a name correctly is if there is an audio book, I may listen to it and go, OMG, I've been saying this character's name wrong...like for Mencheres I had been saying it wrong, or like when we have those call-in chats and the author actually says the characters name.
I so agree with the TSTL pet peeve. It gets so frustrating reading a book and thinking how it would be so much better if the heroine had a personality and brain transplant. Maybe than you wouldn't want to smack her upside the head with said book.
The name thing can be a bit of a turn off but I don't usually pay attention to that. So you could color me surprised when I discover I've been mispronouncing a name.
@Melissa
Thanks! she wasnt THAT bad, but she wasnt great either LOL
I do enjoy quite a few of the the BDB names too hehe
=)
@Mariya
me too!!
LOL that hapens to me too! LOL
I was saying that name wrong aswell LOL
!Eva
LOL
Love this post! I don't mind the headless torsos, only because I want to imagine the face ;)
LOL at the unpronounceable names...
LMAO! This is the most hilarious theme ever! I totally agree with everything!:D
The dumb heroines - mostly in the first book of YA Urban Fantasy series - make me wanna bang my head against the wall!
And the weird names - yes, they're so frustrating! A while ago, I read a book and then I listened the audio version of the following book in that series, and I was so confused! I was pronouncing all the names wrong, I thought they're new characters!LOL
Human imagination has its limits, so impossible sexual positions are just too much!:)) And speaking of sex in UF, another thing that annoys me (could be just me) is sex from the first pages of the book. Seriously, we don't even know the main character name but bang!they're on the floor? Or wherever they do it.:)) Chill, people, there's plenty of time do to whatever wicked thing you want!
And don't get me started with the covers!;)
Lol, yes I hate the headless torso and TSTL heroines..bleh. Great ones
What a great topic!! I concur. :) I love that you mentioned the "Bella" heroines-- I so agree... :) Thanks for the fun today!!
Fantastic list. Very funny. My fave has to be the too stupid to live heroine's so true x
Great post. I hate that I missed it. Really funny stuff. The too complicated sex scenes and too stupid to live are my favorites. Can't agree more. Great post again hon, thank you :)
So glad you hate stupid, annoying female leads too! When they are like that I refer to it in my reviews as "Bella Syndrome".
@Patti
Thanks hon!
I dont usually mind it either actually, but there are soooo many out there LOL
@Deea
Thanks! hehe
