The underground population of witches, vampires, werewolves—creatures of dreams and nightmares—has lived beside humans for centuries, hiding their powers. But after a genetically engineered virus wipes out a large part of humanity, many of the "Inderlanders" reveal themselves, changing everything.
Rachel Morgan, witch and bounty hunter with the Inderland Runner Services, is one of the best at apprehending supernatural lawbreakers throughout Cincinnati, but when it comes to following the rules, she falls desperately short. Determined to buck the system, she quits and takes off on the run with an I.S. contract on her head and is reluctantly forced to team up with Ivy, Inderland's best runner . . . and a living vampire. But this witch is way out of her league, and to clear her name, Rachel must evade shape-changing assassins, outwit a powerful businessman/crime lord, and survive a vicious underground fight-to-the-death . . . not to mention her own roommate.

I LOVE This series! Kim Harrison has created such an amazing and rich world, that is extremely easy to get lost into. Not to mention the characters that you can’t help but fall in love with.
Rachel Morgan is a witch working as a runner, bounty hunter, for the I.S. {Inderland Services} in a world after the turn. The turn was when a breakout killed 2 thirds of the human race, all because of tomatoes. The Inderlanders, supernatural races, were imune and after the breakout they were also the majority. That’s when they decided to come out of the closet.
Rachel is tired of doing menial jobs for the I.S., so along with her back up, the Pixie Jenks and the living Vamp Ivy, she quits her job and starts a private runner business. The thing is that the I.S. is not taking Rachel’s quitting lightly, specially since she has taken one of their best runners with her, and now they are trying to get to permanently retire, into the grave.
Rachel Morgan is a kick-ass heroine, one of the best out there and her adventures are so much fun! Throughout the novels we get to meet an awesome cast of secondary characters that you can’t help but love… Kisten, Matalina, Pierce, Trent, Quen, Ceri and so many more… Each book in the series is full of all-out action balanced out with a great sense of humor that has me laughing out loud many times.
Rachel is one of my favorite heroines ever and amongst the reasons I love her so much is that she is willing to over look the lines drawn by human and supernatural society and do what has to be done to keep her loved ones and herself alive, without ever crossing the lines of the own morals and without hurting anyone on purpose.
I think my biggest biff with the series however, was the death of one of my favorite characters ever about halfway through the series and I am still trying to cope with it. I do enjoy Rachel and Ivy’s sexual tension, which is something I had never seen in an Urban Fantasy novel before and it does bring something new to the table, despite the fact that their “will they – won’t they” tension can get on your nerves sometimes.
All in all, The Hollows is Urban Fantasy at its best and is a must read to any one that consider him/herself a fan of genre. If you haven’t read it yet, get to it! If you have, you know what I’m talking about =D

Excellent series post! I love Kim Harrison's Hallow series! It was one of the first ones I read once I moved from reading only YA to the adult books! I love everything about it! And I too miss that certain character who passed away. Very upsetting.
Jenks though is my fave character! I love him and his snarky attitude! Can't wait for Pale Demon though! Promises to be good!
@Jessica
Thanks hon! Im relieved I could do the series justice LOL
Im still dealing with that character's death!
I LOVE Jenks!!! and btw... Pale Demon is AMAZING!!! =))
I love this series!! It was one of the first UF that I read and helped me to get hooked into the genre. I agree that Rachel is one of the best heroines out there. I also agree about that death... so sad.
@Shannon
YAY! Happy to meet other fans!!! =DD
I think you'll prob love Pale Demon! its so freaking good!
Hey! Great post!
I must say... this is my favorite series! I love the characters, their world, the action, the suspense, the snarky humor... everything (well...except Nick :D).
Mostly, I love Kim Harrison's writing style. It's really entertaining and addictive - it makes you cry and laugh and forget about the outside world.
Actually, I just finished re-reading Black Magic Sanction. Maybe I didn't agree with some situations, but I loved it nonetheless!:D
*sticking my tongue out at you because you've already read Pale Damon* :))
Xo
great series choice =) I loved this series. I felt the same way about one of the characters...I was an emotional wreck. I've never had a book do that to me. I can't wait until Pale Demon. I've got to know what happens next w/ Rachel.
First of all I want to say thank you for the wonderful comment on my review. I was really nervous it being my second review ever and first ARC.
Second Oh I love how this series sounds just added it to my long list. What about her other series is it just as good?
I LOVE this series!!
"I think my biggest biff with the series however, was the death of one of my favorite characters ever about halfway through the series and I am still trying to cope with it."
I know exactly what you mean. I bawled my eyes out in *that* awful scene. Even thinking about it now chokes me up.
I am a big Rachel/Ivy shipper... but you're right, their 'tension' does get annoying and feels endless.
You rock uber hard for bringing light to this amazing series. It is a powerhouse in the UF arena, me thinks!
I seriously got to get on the reading ball and read this series, I have heard so much about it and people always recommend it to me. Thanks for this review.
Great review. I have read the first three of the Hollows series I really need to get the rest read. Kim Harrison is great. x
@Deea
LOL Nick sucks!!! I agree with you, this series is fabulous!!
xoxo
@Tanya

Pale Demon is pretty awesome!
@BLH
It was my pleasure!
I havent read her YA series yet, but I do have it on my wishlist =D
@Danielle
Me too!!!

@Smash
My pleasure! It totally is!! Love it!
@Savannah
you so do! Its such an awesome series! it was my pleasure =D
@Susan
Thanks! and I have to say, the series gets more awesome with each book! =D
I LOVE this series, I have and ARC of Pale Demon sitting next to me waiting for me to have the chance to read it.
@Stacy
ooooh cant wait to read your review! =D
Loved your thoughts on this series! I started them and then had to stop because I was so upset over the death of the character I'm sure you're referring to. I just couldn't quite get past that to keep reading:( It's been a while now though, and it sounds like I should give them another try since I've had some time to deal with it;)
It seems I am not alone in The Hallows being my first UF series. Kim Harrison still gets lots of emails about Kist. That one broke everyone's heart including hers. Can't wait for Pale Demon. Her books are one of just a few that I will be at the bookstore the minute it opens on release day .
@Jenny
I can understand what you mean and I almost stopped as well, I think I had an irrational hope that it was a mistake and he would still be alive after all LOL
Hope you get back to it... it is a great series! =D
@Sharon
I can only imagine!!
Pale Demos is awesome! and I am pretty sure most fans will love it! =D
Great series review! I love this series and how it can wrench a range of emotions from you.
@Kit
Exactly!!! =))) Glad to meet to many fans of the series as well! YAY!
Hi Larissa, I found your blog through Smash. I've never read this series but thank you for the review. Rio sounds like a pretty awesome place to live! I have un poquito espanol in my novel, ha ha.
Hey Jennifer!
Thanks for stopping by! =) Rio is a gorgeous city! though we dont really speak spanish here =D we speak Portuguese, I do know spanish however! =D
I've just recently started reading this series, and am currently readin BMS. I absolutely LOVE this series. Kim Harrison is absolutely fabulous in the way she writes.
I agree on the death. I was a blubbering mess when it happened. But that's what makes the series so great, you never know what is going to happen!!!! What's the point in endangering a character if we know that nothing will come of it. And god knows these characters get put through the ringer! It's also a first in a series for me as I have never shipped a F/F pairing before, but Ivy and Rachel have some chemistry!! Hawt!
Your review is absolutely fabulous, by the way :)
@Amber
Thank you! Im so happy to find so many fans of this series! its such an amazing UF series and Im glad I can share the love LOL =D
I can't wait for the new book! I'm a HUGE Trent fan, and just the idea of a road trip with Trent, Rachel and gang spells perfect storyline :)
"The" death crushed me. That and Jenks's storyline in the last book were so hard to read and get through. Even the first chapter of Pale Demon has a Jenks moment with Rachel and I got teary eyed reading that.
But that's what makes it a favorite series, it has a little bit of everything, good and bad.
@Wildcat
I love Trent! I agree, just the idea of a road trip with them is insane!
I agree with you, it is def a complete series that touches us and gives us a lot of entertainment... I think you';ll LOVE "Pale Demon" =D
