This Giveaway is Over!
Nathalie has announced the winner in the comments!
Thanks for participating!
- When did you first start writing?
During maternity leave from the army. I was going through books like crazy and threw half of them against the wall. Then I decided, hell, I can do that shit better. Silly, misguided girl that I was! My first manuscript (which shall forever remain under my bed) probably broke every grammar and syntax rule. I lament the eyes that would inadvertently come across it.
- What genres do you write in?
Mainly science fiction, paranormal, and steampunk. Love the action and high adventure those genres generate!
- Which is your favorite?
I have many, but one I love with every part of me, even my elbows, is book 2 in my Lycan Warriors series. I nicknamed that hero, a towering lycan with a heart of gold…wait for it…Cupcake! Readers enjoyed that a lot, judging from the comments I’ve received.
- Which is your least favorite?
I wish I could write Timely Defence again. In this time-travel story, the hero breaks the windows in the villain’s manor by driving golf balls through them. That’s what you get for disrespecting his lady! I’d make him even more outrageous, if I had the chance to re-write that novel.
Favorites:
- Favorite Paranormal or Sci-fi themed Movie?
Oh boy, that’s a hard one. Probably Aliens, mostly because of Ripley. She was the strongest on-screen woman I’d seen and nobody had since supplanted her in my mind as The Kickass Heroine To End All Kickass Heroines.
- Favorite Paranormal or Sci-fi themed TV Show?
Firefly! Without doubt!
- Favorite Paranormal or Sci-fi themed Book?
I regularly re-read Ghosts in the Snow, by Tamara Siler Jones (paranormal, horror) and Richard Morgan’s Market Forces (futuristic earth, scifi).
- Favorite Author?
J.K. Rowling. Because she can take you places with words. That woman rocks. And Christopher Moore! Oops, that’s two authors.
- Favorite Genre that is NOT your own?
Comedy.
- Favorite one of your Books?
DamNATION, which incidentally won an RT Award for best futuristic novel.
- Who is your favorite of your own characters?
Cupcake, a towering lycan with more guns than scars and who’s the worst of the bad. Except to his heroine, then he’s the gentlest teddy bear.
- Which was the hardest to write?
One of my characters has a dark, dark past that hounds his every step. He did very bad things and has been cursed for over 2,000 years. He was a powerful praetor at the height of the Roman Empire and is now reduced to a haunted and tormented man. Until he finds one woman able and willing to help him. (Heartless, from Red Sage publishing).
- What would you be if not a writer?
Writing is my second career. I was a soldier for many, many years, and also a translator. That’s probably what I’d be if I didn’t write or create covers (which I do under the name Kanaxa).
- If you could be a Paranormal or Sci-fi being, who would you be?
I’d be dragon and I’d flatten all those pesky little vampires and shifters! :D
Quickies!
- Coffee or Tea? TEA!
- Up or Down? UP!
- Virtual or Real? REAL!
- Right or Left? LEFT!
- Day or Night? DAY!
- Here or There? HERE!
- Sooner or Later? SOONER!
- Light or Dark? LIGHT!
- Fast or Slow? FAST!
- Vampires or Shifters? SHIFTERS!
- Angels or Demons? ANGELS!
- Reading or Writing? WRITING!
- What is your favorite part of the writing process?
The editing. I love peeling away all the layers and making the story as lean and mean as possible. Life is too short for fluff!
- What is your least favorite part?
There aren’t any.
- How many series are you writing for right now?
I tend to write mostly stand alone stories so that folks can pick up any of my books and start reading. But I have two main series, one a scifi (Femme Metal, completed at 3 books), and one a shifter (Lycan Warriors, latest is book 4). My latest is Metal Reign, part of Samhain’s Impulse Power (space opera).
- What is coming up next for you?
One just came out this month with The Mammoth Book of Paranormal Romance 2, a paranormal story entitled The Demon’s Secret, about fashion-conscious demons, rogue angels and bounty hunters who hunt souls. Lots of guns in this one!
Then I have a scifi story coming out in December as part of Samhain Publishing’s Impulse Power. It’s entitled Metal Reign and here’s the official blurb: The invaders thought they had crushed humanity. They messed with the wrong species.
- Do you have any advice or tip to those like me that want to become a published Author someday?
Someone once told me “you need three things to make it as a published author: hard work, luck, and timing…any two will do.”
- Anything you would like to say to your fans out there?
Thank you so very much for ruining your eyeballs on my stories. All I aspire to do is give my readers a good ride. I hope I’ve achieved that.

I ran across your book Full Steam Ahead recently on Meljean Brook's Steampunk Week. I'm interested to hear that you write a lot of different stories, in several genres.
I'm with you, being a dragon would be fabulous.

Hi again! It's great to see so many readers enjoying the interview. Larissa's excellent questions really brought out the goof in me. Not that it's hidden or anything... HA!
Redd! Hey there! You liked Cupcake? I'm so thrilled. My editor gave my The Quirked Eyebrow when I presented the synopsis with the hero's name as Cupcake. But when she received the manuscript, she said it suited him well.
Keep those comments coming. Only two days before the closing of the giveaway. :)
Heeh, I really love the contradiction that some characters are.
They are hard and ruthless when it comes to duty or their race, but they are like butter when it comes to their women!
Cupcake? OMG, I bet he got teased but other than that, it's so friggin cute!!!
OMG Firefly, yes! I have no idea why that show got canceled! It was brilliant!!!
Thanks for hosting this interview! It was great!! XD
And thanks for the giveaway as well.

I have one thing to say: fashion-conscious demons..LOL! Oh, that is just too funny. Ok, I know you don't write funny, and it probably was not ment to be funny, but that part got me (sometimes have to laugh even during the serious moments).
Great interview. You books sound great. Good luck with the latest!

Great cover! Would love to read it.
Well, guess what, today is the 9th. What does it mean you ask? It only means that today, someone will WIN SOME SHIT!
That's right. Using only the best in scientific computational methods, a winner has been chosen to win a free copy of Full Steam Ahead, by moi (well, not "moi" per say, on the cover it says Nathalie Gray...but Nat Gray, that's moi). And the winner is...
*drum roll*
KELLY! (aka yllektra)
So, Kelly, I'll contact you in a short bit to send you your copy of the book.
Thanks everyone who participated, you all made me feel at home. Larissa's bunch are truly awesome!
