THE END, but Only the Beginning!
Woohoo, I finished writing Dreaming of the Wolf!!! After hundreds of rewrites, thousands of edits, tons and tons of rereads, I finished it. It’s Jake’s story, which is Book 8 in the series.
It seems so weird when we’re writing a series, to be promoting Book 5, while writing Book 8, when the book we’re currently working on is the one we’re so engrossed in. I’ve also been mentioning a lot about Wolf Fever, Book 6, because it’s coming in December, but poor Book 7, Heart of the Highland Wolf is getting lost in the shuffle. Not for long though. I’m getting ready to write Book 9 & 10, and one deals
with the Highland wolves again.
How do I keep them straight? It’s hard!!! Sometimes I get my names mixed up. I definitely have to reread the books to make sure if the characters were in an early book and have their own story next, I keep them fairly true to their nature. How can it change? We all act differently when we’re
around different people. With family, one way. With co-workers, another. With people we don’t know at all, another even. So it’s the same with characters in a book. They’re one way with family and friends and the general populace. But put a hunky wolf in their path, and whoa, everything changes!
Actually, by the time this is up, I’ll be working on a brand new story, #9 in the series. And the agonizing begins all over again. How do I begin the story? How do the two meet? I have all kinds of ideas for both stories.
I’ve already set down the parameters—occupations, goals, motivations, generally how they meet in the pitch to sell them. And then, who knows where it will all go!
With Seduced by the Wolf, the latest release, it all started with a true story about a wolf biologist who discovered a she-wolf with pups, that had lost her mate. It had such a lovely happy ending, romantic too, that I just had to use it—werewolf style—in my story.
In Highland Wolf in Paradise, I just had to do something about the man who had stolen the clan’s money in Heart of the Highland Wolf. And in The Wolf and the SEAL, Meara still is looking for an alpha mate, and while her brother is on his honeymoon with Tessa, she’s off to play. The idea I had about the SEAL, actually came from my editor, who had commented on Hunter being a SEAL in To Tempt the Wolf, and how it would be neat if his whole team were werewolves. I LOVED the idea, and finally came up with a way to incorporate the rest of the SEAL team into a tale with Meara.
One of my co-workers was the one who gave me the kernel of an idea for Heart of the Highland Wolf also. She said I never had a poor wolf. About that time, Madoff had made off with so many investors’ funds, I used the idea to create a clan (I’ve been dying to write a Highland wolf tale) who’d lost their
investments to a financial investment swindler, and voila, we have a poor wolf. Well, a whole bunch of poor wolves, in fact.
Having a fun reason for writing a story, helps in promoting it too. Why in the world did you write this the way you did? Well, let me tell you. See, there was this headline story that caught my eye, and the next thing I knew, werewolf packs were involved. Simple as fantasy!
Wolf Fever came out at a time when we were told a mass epidemic of flu was going to hit the world. I changed the scenario to one pack.
So I’m off to write a new werewolf saga, and hope that you’ll check out the one that’s just come out. But my question to you is: have you heard something in the news that would make you think how fun it would be to use it in a werewolf story? Hey, if it’s really good, can I use it???
Thanks again to Larissa for having me.
And to readers, thanks so much for dropping by and commenting!!

I have actually been avoiding reading any werewolf books for a while. There just seemed to be too many of them coming out.
However this sounds as if it might have a new slant on it, so I would like to give it a try.
Thanks for the giveaway.

Thanks, ladies!
And Stacey, I'm thrilled you're enjoying the series!
Thanks so much, Larissa, for hosting me! It's a real pleasure to be here!
This is such a good Wolf series. So many wonderful stories yet to come. I had a dream last night that I could hear and see a Highlander playing a bagpipe coming out of the mist. He was playing Amazing Grace. I woke up to it playing on the IPOD radio.
Terry, Yesterday, I seen a news report of a car accident. And a bunch of guys passing by were trying to help save a guy trapped in his burning old Ford Roadster he had old Lap type seat belts. They had trouble freeing him. They didn't give up. They got him out. Before the Car exploded. It was amazing. I could see that in a story of your wolves.
I am excited to know you are writing another series. I am really like this one so can't wait for more.

Ohmigosh, Donna, my Highlanders were calling you in your dreams! And as to the car accident, wow. The heroine's car is on fire in Heart of the Highland Wolf! How strange. Think it's a coincidence? I can't tell you what happens next in the story though. But those guys definitely sound like wolves that rescued the stuck guy. :)
Thanks, Cait! I'm thrilled you're loving the series too! :) Sounds like you're ready for some Highlanders too!
You are right, there are very few POOR paranormal characters. They all have investments, growth funds...etc. I imagine it is hard to write a poor one.

Hey, Robin, I think the problem is that if you are thinking of yourself as the heroine, who wants a poor down and out hero, who's jobless, moneyless, homeless, looking to shack up with a woman who can support him? LOL :)
Although in To Tempt the Wolf, Hunter comes close as Tessa finds him naked, half dead, and nameless on her beach. :)
great post. Can't wait to read them.
I haven't heard anything in the news that could be used in a werewolf story, its really boring around here :)

Ah, but that's the beauty of writing, Elaing. :) You take the ordinary, like let's say something in the mail--same old thing, boring bills, junk mail, nothing exciting, and make it extraordinary! :) A letter from a lawyer. Someone's suing you? Or you receive a letter from someone who died years earlier, or...someone just died and left you a castle in France! :)
Hmm...or maybe all three of the above...and then what is the connection? LOL :)
I am a follower. Great interview. Please enter me in contest. I would love to read this book. tore923@aol.com
I love the idea of a co-worker giving the idea for a poor wolf. Most books have the supernatural characters as being old and wealthy, it is nice to see a down on his luck dog. Thank you for the amazing reads Terry! I cannot wait to read the latest, I would love a copy ')

Thanks so much, Teril! Yes, my coworkers are really great. They try to help me with titles and all kinds of things. They're good sports. But, I have to warn you, wolves do not like to be referred to as dogs. :) LOL
Thanks, Martha! I've been working on The Wolf and the SEAL and when I awoke, I had this great scene coming to me--a popping noise, hero slamming into heroine and taking her to the floor... The situation is serious but humorous because of what he's wearing (or not wearing), but it makes for a great cliff hanger. :) If I had tried to come up with this last night when I was writing, it wouldn't have happened! Off to add the scene to the 9th book. I love SEALs. :) Especially this one. :) Hope you check out the books, and if you need autographed book plates and book marks, you can send me a SASE and I'll send them to you. :)
Count me in please! Werewolves!

Thanks so much, Joanna! I'm having fun seducing a SEAL, the wolfish kind, right now! :)
I'm always amazed to read how authors get their inspiration. Things that I would never think twice about end up becoming whole books. I'll have to check out Heart of a Highland Wolf - it does seem like paranormal characters are always well off, so that would be a different twist.

Thanks, ladies!
Gabriella, thanks on Dreaming of the Wolf. :) I'm still waiting to see what my editor says about Heart of the Highland Wolf and Dreaming of the Wolf...*sigh*...but I'm working feverishly on seducing a SEAL right now. But another just showed up who's trying to steal the show. Hey, I'm writing this story!!! :) Now...what to do with him. I know! Give him his own story! Yep. That would work. :)
I got hooked on shifters years ago with the Cheysuli, and have really enjoyed the resurgence of stories more recently. About rich vs poor paranormals, I suspect it would be rather hard to be immortal and not be able to amass some wealth--after all, they keep telling us that 'just hang in there' is a good way to make money on the stock market!
