“Merit, Chicago’s newest vampire, is learning how to play well with others. Other supernaturals, that is. Shapeshifters from across the country are convening in the Windy City, and as a gesture of peace, Master Vampire Ethan Sullivan has offered their leader a very special bodyguard: Merit. Merit is supposed to protect the Alpha, Gabriel Keene—and to spy for the vamps while she’s at it. Oh, and luckily Ethan’s offering some steamy, one-on-one combat training sessions to help her prepare for the mission.
Merit must accept the assignment, even though she knows that she’ll probably regret it. And she’s not wrong. Someone is gunning for Gabriel Keene, and Merit soon finds herself in the line of fire. She’ll need all the help she can get to track down the would-be assassin, but everywhere she turns, there are rising tensions between supernaturals—not least between her and a certain green-eyed, centuries old master vampire.”

Twice Bitten: A Chicagoland Vampires Novel |
*Contains spoilers if you haven’t read the previous books in the series.
I had been waiting for so long for this Twice Bitten. This was a series I actually found out right on the release of the first book, so I have had the misfortune of having to wait painfully long for each book and this one was definitely a hell of a wait. I’m happy happy to say that it was well worth the wait.
After dealing with Merit’s reluctance with being a vampire and then having to see her having to through the change again and finally having to embrace her new nature, it was great witnessing her grow into her own self and being more comfortable in her own skin.
Twice Bitten starts off less then a week after the events from Friday Night Bites and we have our girl Merit and Cadogan House Master Ethan having to deal with the shifter problem.
According to their History, the shifters have always stayed in the sidelines and the last time a war broke loose they retreated and left the vamps to fend for themselves. That has left a canyon wide gap between shifter and vamps and with the Vampires dealing with a possibility of another war brewing the main question is if the shifters will pull the same act as before.
I loved getting a first look of the shifters politics in this novel and it brought so much more color to the world Chloe has created. It was great seeing Merit and Ethan working together and their chemistry was undeniable.
It bothered me that Merit seemed to change so much from the previous book to this one, when the time lapse was only about a week long between the two stories. However, I feel like I had been waiting for so long for some events in this book that when it finally happened I actually had to stop and say aloud “FINALLY”. Though it did irk me the standoffish way one of the characters after it.
Of course, Ethan had to go screw everything up being all mastery and stuff but after the ending I just hope he gets his act together and fixes his mess once and for all. I did love seeing Mallory and Catcher, gotta love those two. Their parts of the book got me actually laughing out loud and were by far the most fun of the novel.
Twice Bitten is a great addition to the Chicagoland series and i can’t hardly wait for the next one, Hard Bitten. After the events on this one, I am sure we can expect great things from the next book.
The Chicagoland Vampires series is fun action packed one that i absolutely recommend to any Urban Fantasy out there. While not so dark or gritty as some others, it definitely has its appeal and it’s an automatic buy for me.

xoxo,
Larissa, what a great review! I picked up this series back in February as part of a Goodreads series challenge & LOVED it! The wait was not as painful as yours, but was still REALLY hard! & I was just like you when I had to say FINALLY out loud! Of course, Ethan went & messed it up, but I truly have faith in him :) I can't wait for Hard Bitten! She's only contracted for the four, but hopefully we can convince her to keep writing ;)
Awwww Thanks!!
yeah he had to go mess up and then be all sweet damn him LOL
I agree! we gotta get her to write more! =D
I adore this series. I love the chemistry between Ethan and Merit. I love Mallory and Catcher, those two are great and I have to say I missed them in Twice Bitten, I would love to get more from them!
I was extremely pissed with Ethan and I rolled my eyes and couldn't believe what he's doing...
But the end makes up for it! Great Review and I'm excited for the next book!
I was so pissed too and yeah, the ending did make up for plenty of it =)
awww I missed Mal and Catcher too! they are great!
I cant wait either!
I've been reading this one (slowly) on my Kindle. I'm not a huge fan of this series, and I swore I wouldn't read any more after book #2. I thought this third installment started out well, but I'm halfway through and now it's sluggish and I've given up for the time being.
Agree with most of the points in your review. I thought Merit and Ethan's hook-up was a little lukewarm and so-so though.
I know what you mean... it didnt really burn the page when they finally got together. My Finally was more for the fact that it happened than any indication of the hotness of the encounter LOL
Hi Larissa.Visiting from RR. I havent read anything form Chloe Neill but they sounds great. They are paranormal right? I might try reading this soon =)
Thanks!
yep, paranormal hehe Hope you enjoy it if you get a chance to read it =D
Hi there, I found you through Radiant Reviews! I'm definitely adding this series to Mount TBR!
Hey Lady Q. Thanks for stopping by =))
and I hope you enjoy it when you get a chance to read it!
Stopping by from Radiant Reviews. I haven't read any others in this series but it sounds like one that I would really enjoy. Going to have to add it to my wishlist! x
I loved this book and the series as well. This is probably close to being my fave so far. Cross between this and the first one. I definitely warmed up to Ethan more in this one, before that I really liked Morgan a lot. Can't wait to see where this series goes!
I love the name Merit! It just sounds cool! I haven't read any of these books before so this is something new for me. It seems like it has "merit" - lol!
Nicely done on your review!
I just won a copy of this book but haven't read it yet. Is it a good teen book? I was going to add it to my school's library collection
Great review! I'm with you in that I discovered this series at the beginning too and have had to face the long wait for subsequent books. They are well worth the wait. To answer Helen, I would say maybe they are OK for teens. I work in a grade 6 through 12 library and feel they are too mature for most of my students. The themes and the violence might be too much. Also the characters are not teens. On the other hand, they are really good books to read to transition to adult paranormals.
Hi Larissa, thanks for taking part in Radiant Reviews again :)
I've got the first 2 books from this series on my bookshelf but have yet to read them. I think I'll have to move them a bit closer to the top of my TBR pile! Great review!
@Lyndsey
Hope you like it =D
@Jessica
I was never a huge Morgan fan, so Im just happy Ethan is getting better lOL
@Julie
Thank you!
@Helen
not really teen, but I agree with Kathy... its a good transition between teen and adult paranormals
@Kathy
Thanks!!! the wait is a killer isnt it?? LOL
@Chrissie
It was my pleasure! and Thanks!!
Hope you enjoy them!
Great review!
I really must start this series
