“Bree Tanner can barely remember life before she had uncannily powerful senses, superhuman reflexes and unstoppable physical strength. Life before she had a relentless thirst for blood... life before she became a vampire.
All Bree knows is that living with her fellow newborns has few certainties and even fewer rules: watch your back, don't draw attention to yourself and, above all, make it home by sunrise or die. What she doesn't know: her time as an immortal is quickly running out.
Then Bree finds an unexpected friend in Diego, a newborn just as curious as Bree about their mysterious creator, whom they know only as "her". As they come to realize that the newborns are pawns in a game larger than anything they could have imagines, Bree and Diego must choose sides and decide whom to trus. But when everything you know about vampires is based on a lie, how do you find the truth?”

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella (Twilight Saga) |
*Contain Spoilers if you haven’t read “Eclipse”
I was not really inclined to read this story anytime soon. I am a huge Twilight Saga fan and always will be, but after reading the books I have encountered so many amazing YA novels and series, that Twilight’s shortcomings became amazingly glaring.
Don’t get me wrong, as I said, I will always love the series and I’ll probably re-read the books for a 6th time in the future, but I wasn’t really interested in reading this short story about a character that gets so little time on stage, in Eclipse.
I am so happy that I decided to give it a try and read it on the free Bree Tanner website. I was pleasantly surprised and shocked at how much I enjoyed this story.
Bree is a newborn, created amongst many with the sole purpose of being put to fight for a cause she is not even aware of. She has been lied to and cheated the chance to have a “healthy” vampire afterlife.
Her unexpected friendship with another newborn named Diego, leads her on a discovery path that can be deadly for both of them. They’ve been lied to by the people that are supposed to have their safety in their hands, but changing the status quo is definitely trickier than they think.
“The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner” shows a definite improvement in Meyer’s writing style and does what I thought would never happen, it has made me care for a character that i never gave a second look at.
I feel for Bree and Diego, and for everything that could have been for them and wasn’t. The future they could have had but that was taken from them.
It was also great to see the final confrontation in Eclipse seen from a different point of view and see things that we could not have seen from Bella’s limited point of view. “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner” is a must read to any Twilight Saga fan out there.
I just hope Stephanie has something planned for Fred… I feel that we can get great things from there.

My husband bought me a copy of this book the day it came out and I have to say that I put it off for a good week or more before reading - even though I've read all the other Twilight books three times each! It is a really good story and I was definitely glad that I read it. However, I was slightly disappointed that we didn't see much of the battle at all. I was really excited about Bree's story coming out for that reason, but she runs away ... so, not much of anything. But, besides that, it WAS a good book. ;)
@Missy
Yeah, thats true... but if we had seen her in the battle she would have been dead much sooner hehe =)))
I gave up on Twilight after Eclipse :( I saw this one in the stores, and read the first chapter. I agree on how the author writing style has improved, but I don't think i'll be buyin/reading for free anytime soon.
Great review :)
@book Monster
Thanks! yeah, i can understand that, im sorry =)
I have yet to read the twilight saga, but I think I'll add this book to my TBR list :)
Nice review :)
Great Review! I have the book but haven't gotten around to reading it yet :)
I really loved Bree and Diego and you fall for them even if you don't want to. I would love to hear Fred's story and I would also like another look at the wolf pack with Leah. Now that all the Cullens have trooped off with Jacob, does that leave Leah in charge of Jacob's pack? She was his second in command. I want more there.
@Nora
thanks! =) Its definitely a great companion for the 3rd book in the saga =))
@Felicia
ooooh I hope you enjoy it! =)
@Lily
Im with you!! I want both those stories too =)
but I dont think Jacob left... they are still all living in the same place... but I do want Leah's story, she deserves a HEA =))))
