Ok, so I’m here hanging out with a friend at 5am on a Wednesday morning, reading internet articles and watching videos on VH1 Hits, when the video clip for Adam Lambert’s “Whataya Want From Me” comes up and I’m all like: “YAY! I love this song”
Well the video is pretty simple and a lot of it is just Adam acting out a couple’s quarrel with the camera, and at first I said to my friend: “oh that’s a pretty cool way to keep things simple and it looks cool”, but about half a second later I started to wonder about the real reason they decided to have Adam act against a camera instead of doing it with a person.
Everyone knows he is Gay, so having him in a lover’s quarrel with a woman would be ridiculous, so why not have him play it out with a man? Would that be so much of a shock to the audience’s frail sensibilities?
I cannot say that this choice was made for that reason and of course the label would say that it is an artistic choice, which I could totally buy, but I don’t. I am sorry, but I don’t believe that it is a coincidence that with SO many videos out there that portrait relationships, the one that shows no counterpart for the artist is Adam Lambert’s, specially after that whole AMA make-out debacle.
ARGH! I hate prejudice and this just gets me pissed off! The lack of equality for homosexuals in the law is already ridiculous in my eyes, but not being able to portrait it on a video clip? Really?
Again, I might be wrong about this whole thing, and it might just be a way of leaving the sexual identity of Adam’s lover open, but it did strike me as too suspicious and I couldn’t just not say anything about it.
Check the video for yourself bellow and tell me what do you think!
So, what did you think? Did I blow this out of proportion or am I right?
Thanks so much for tuning in and I’ll see you soon!
xoxo,
