Hey There everyone!
Welcome to another New Blogs on the Block! This feature was created by the Amazing Carolyn from Book Chick City and after hosting it for a few months she has pass this on to me.
For information on how have your Book Blog featured, check out HERE!
I’d like to welcome Helen from Helen’s Book Blog here today =)
1. When and why did you start blogging?
I am a high school Teacher Librarian and started a blog on my school's website hoping that the students would read it and get inspired to read some of the books I reviewed. I also included school events, technology, etc. This fall I discovered non-school book blogs and fell in love with the idea. I wanted to enter contests and do challenges and realized it wasn't really appropriate to do that on my school's blog so I started Helen's Book Blog to separate out my school blogging and my love of books blogging.
In fact, I was so inspired by the Dewey 24-hour read-a-thon that I am organizing a California Read-A-Thon for K-12 school Librarians and their students.
2. Tell us a little about your blog?
I blog about books and book/author-related stuff, but it's mostly reviews. I read a lot of YA (various genres) since I work in a high school library, but I am in two adult book groups so I have a variety. I haven't solicited books from publishers or authors since I just don't know if I have time to read as much as that seems to require (I work full time and have a nine year old). However, I am very excited about doing challenges this year.
3. Are there any features on your blog you would like to highlight?
As a newbie I haven't figured out any features that I want to do. Oh, I do the What are you reading on Mondays (started by J.Kaye's Book Blog).
4. What's been the high point of blogging so far?
I love feeling like I am part of a larger community that also loves books, authors, and talking about books. I am a bit of a techie as well, so for me blogging and reading fit perfectly. I get such a thrill when someone comments on one of my posts or a win a contest; it's like being accepted into the coolest group around. That probably sounds SO corny!
5. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I live in Santa Barbara, California and am a single mom to a nine year old and I work full time as a high school teacher librarian. I love reading (obviously), do a lot of photography, and travel during school vacations. Travel is huge on my list of priorities. In the last year we've been to Italy, England, Oman, Virginia, and Washington, DC. Since my extended family all lives in Britain so we try to get there as often as possible. We got a rescue poodle (against my better judgement) a year ago and I must confess that Charlie has wiggled his way into our hearts.
6. What's your favourite book of all time?
It's so difficult to pick one book, but one of my all-time favorites in Barbara Kingsolver's Animal Dreams. I am going to re-read it for the 2010 Flashback Reading Challenge sponsored by Booklust.
7. Who are your favourite authors?
Some of my favorite authors are: Barbara Kingsolver, Nancy Farmer, Laurie Halse Anderson, Patricia McCormick, and the recently-discovered Julius Lester.
I have 11 books listed for the Women Unbound Challenge, 3 for the Flashback Challenge, and the 26 for the 2010 Young Adult Reading Challenge (these books are on my regular TBR since that's my current favorite genre). Obviously, my TBR is very long term!
9. Where do you see your blog in a year from now?
A year from now I hope my blog is still going strong with a solid position in the book blogging community. I'd live to figure out a weekly feature of my own, though so many are already taken. I see the summer as a time when I can really refine where I am going and what I'd like it to be since that's when I have so much time off (and time to read).
Thanks so much for stopping by Helen!

Thanks for featuring me; I really appreciate it. I wonder how many people will recognize the author Ray Bradbury in that first photograph?
