Hey there everyone! How are you all doing today?
Welcome to another New Blogs on the Block! This feature was created by the Amazing Carolyn from Book Chick City and after hosting it for a few months she has pass this on to me.
For information on how have your Book Blog featured, check out HERE!
Today I have the pleasure to welcome Mandy from the blog She Reads!
1. When and why did you start blogging?
I started my blog in July 2009. I started for a few reasons 1. I read. A lot. It's a noticeable addiction and people had made comments about (usually in jest). 2. People were asking me for recommendations or to see my reading list. 3. I like talking about books. 4. I'm a teacher. My available reading time doubles during the summers. I needed some way to keep track of what I was reading.
2. Tell us a little about your blog?
Right now, She Reads is just a log of the books I'm reading currently and my reviews of them. Though I'm not sure if review is the right word...to me what I'm putting up as reviews are just my feelings and reactions to the books.
3. Are there any features on your blog you would like to highlight?
Ummmm...like really cool things? Not really. I mean I was pretty proud of myself back in October when I had Stacey Voss stop by my blog during her book tour. Also, I love that I have a group of readers who love to comment and have conversations.
4. What's been the high point of blogging so far?
This is silly but I loved it. I was able to host a book giveaway for the Hatchet Group. This doesn't seem like a big deal, but it felt like a minor victory to me. I'd tried to share a book I had received when I first started blogging. And only two people were interested in it. Actually, one was a friend, and she didn't even ask for the book until I was begging people. So, having 40+ people enter a giveaway was amazing!
5. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Well, I'm an English teacher at a small charter school in Phoenix, AZ. I've only lived in Arizona for 5 years. Before that I lived in Laramie, WY. I currently live in a house that is a clutter of my husband's and my obsessions. Lots of movies, and books, and art fill up all the spaces. I'm horribly pop-culture oriented......Joss Whedon and his creations make me very happy. I've a slight obsession with vampires. Well, monsters of all kinds, but specifically vamps. I also have an awesome cat. (And I ramble when asked to talk about myself)
6. What's your favourite book of all time?
I love love love Juliet Marillier's Daughter of the Forest. I've read that book dozens of times and every time I find something new to enjoy and love. The rest of the series is fabulous as well. I'm psyched that she is adding a fourth book to the series soon!
7. Who are your favourite authors?
Juliet Marillier and Sarah Douglass are two of my Australian favorites. For romances Katie MacAlister and Karen Marie Moning rock. I get my sci-fi fix from Ray Bradbury. And Frank Beddor holds a place in my heart with his reenvisioning of Wonderland in The Looking Glass Wars series.
8. How many books are on your tbr list right now?
Well, Good Reads has me at 153 right now, but that doesn't include the 70+ books I added to the bookshelves at home from the Friends of the Library book sales, or the 25-30 I have scribbled down on random pieces of paper or saved posts from other blogs.
9. Where do you see your blog in a year from now?
Hopefully, I'll still be going strong. Maybe add some features other than reviews....but definitely still with a growing and participating group of readers. That's the best part!
Thanks so much for stopping by Mandy!
