"Seattle. One minute you're drinking a vanilla breve, the next, some creepy old dude is breathing on you, turning you into a zombie. And that's just for starters. Now, the recently deceased Amanda Feral is trying to make her way through Seattle's undead scene with style (mortuary-grade makeup, six-inch stilettos, Balenciaga handbag on sale) while satisfying her craving for human flesh (Don't judge. And no, not like chicken.) and decent vodkatinis.
I had been meaning to get this book for a while when Mark Henry was kind enough to offer it to me. I dug right into it and was hit in the face disturbing, snarky, fun, interesting and many times disgusting world. To be quite honest it took me a while to get used to the visual Mark throws at us and to learn to deal with such an Anti-Heroine.
I stuck it out and I am definitely glad that I did. "Happy Hour..." is hilarious and not for the faint-hearted. Amanda is a zombie and we get to join her in some very disturbing situations, as when she needs to feed. How many heroines can you say you have read about, that eat people? LOL Not really something you think you'd laugh about, but Henry just have a way of making it so funny, you end up not caring.
It took me a while to actually like Amanda, I mean, she is such a Bitch! However, I did end up rooting for her and her friends. Amanda's world is freaky and fun and impossible not to get involved in. It's a mix of Night of the living dead with Sex and The City and Mark Henry does it so well. The mystery plot was quite interesting and I definitely did not see it coming, though I have to say I kinda suspected one of the bad guys hehe, I think it was all about the paranoid in me. You can only read so many UF books and not start suspecting the cat of being a shifter! LOL
One thing that actually bothered me somewhat were the footnotes. They were hilarious at times, but it got annoying having to check the bottom of the page so much, specially when you're reading on your laptop. That said, that little hurdle did not take much from the experience and all in all it was definitely pleasant.
If you love the paranormal and can handle people eating and a lot of snark, this is The Book for you!!!
