"In a frozen wilderness steeped in darkness, the lines between good and evil, lover and enemy, are never black or white but drawn in Shades of Midnight.
Something inhuman is stalking the frigid Alaskan wilds, leaving unspeakable carnage in its wake. For bush pilot Alexandra Maguire, the killings stir memories of a horrific event she witnessed as a child and evoke in her the inexplicable sense of otherness she has long felt within herself but never fully understood . . . until a darkly seductive stranger with secrets of his own enters her world.
Sent from Boston on a mission to investigate the savage attacks and stop the slaughter, vampire warrior Kade has his own reasons for returning to the frigid, forbidding place of his birth. Haunted by a secret shame, Kade soon realizes the stunning truth of the threat he faces–a threat that will jeopardize the fragile bond he has formed with the courageous, determined young woman who arouses his deepest passions and most primal hungers. But in bringing Alex into his world of blood and darkness, Kade must confront both his own personal demons and the even greater evil that could destroy all he holds dear."
I finished this book a few days ago and have been dragging my feet in terms of sitting down and actually writing a review and I have to say, this was not my favorite of this series.
After coming out of such a high that was "Ashes of Midnight" in my opinion, I found that Shades of Midnight fell short. I felt the story was so slow in the beginning and it took me a while to actually care for Kade and Alexandra.
More after the jump...
Kade has been in the series for a few books, but we never got much contact with him and to be quite honest I wasn't really invested in him much. He did become an interesting character for me and had some cool twists and turns in the story that made me really care for him, but until then it was a struggle.
On the other hand, I liked Alex from the get go. Though she says she is a coward at times, I found her extremely strong and brave, a great heroine and a perfect match for Kade. Their chemistry was awesome and though there weren't that many sex scenes, the ones that happened, were damn hot!
The plot took a while to take off and having the story take place far from Boston and the other warriors was a mistake IMO. I missed them and their mates around. When the plot did pick up, it was very interesting and it moved forward quite nicely.
I still love this series, but I feel this book was a bump in road, one I am willing to let go and I can't wait for the next book.
I give this book 3.5/5 Loveys

I tried to get into this series awhile ago and just couldn't. Maybe I will try again some day :)
Loved the review. I totally agree with you on Kade. Just didn't connect with him like I did the others. Loved Alex. She rocks! I love the Midnight Breed and I hope the next book will be better because I have invested so much into this series.
@Mandi
i hope u like it when you do =)))
@Bells
thanks hon! i love Alex too! i agree, next book has to rock lol =)))
This is one of my favorite series. But I'm behind on it. I still need to read this one and the last one Ashes of Midnight.
I have heard similar thoughts on Ashes of Midnight which makes me kinda sad. :( I'll still read them but now I'll drag me feet a bit.
Thanks for the review!!
I'm really going to have to read this series! I think when a series gets really big, there's bound to be a book or two that doesn't flow with the rest of them.
@Donna
I actually really liked Ashes! its one of my favorites =)
@buckeyegirl
I totally agree with you. thats why im not giving up on the series yet LOL =))
