"Dorina Basarab is a dhampir—half-human, half-vampire. Subject to uncontrollable rages, most dhampirs live very short, very violent lives. So far, Dory has managed to maintain her sanity by unleashing her anger on those demons and vampires who deserve killing. Back home in Brooklyn after the demise of her insane uncle Dracula, Dory’s hoping her life is about to calm down. But then she gets some visitors. A friend wants Dory’s help in finding a magical Fey relic, and the gorgeous vampire, Louis-Cesare, is desperate to find his former mistress Christine.Dory and Louis-Cesare quickly discover that the same master vampire Christine is bound to is also rumored to be in possession of the relic. But when the master vampire turns up dead, they realize that there’s more at stake than a missing mistress. Someone is killing vampire Senate members, and if Dory and Louis-Cesare can’t stop the murderer, they may be next…"
I have to say that I hadn't realized how much I had missed Karen Chance's writing and the world she has created until I read this book. It's been a while since Book 1 in the Dorina Basarab series and Book 4 in the Cassie Palmer came out and it had been too long.
Death's Mistress is the sequel to Chance's Midnight's Daughter (you can read my review here), which is a Spin off series of Karen's Cassandra Palmer series. Though I am such a huge fan of the Cassie Palmer books I gotta that now I love Dorina Basarab's series even more.
Dorina is a Damphir, half-human & half-vampire, and an amazingly strong and lovable character. She is the scourge of the vampire world, treated as a creature and disliked by many. There haven't been many Damphirs in history and the ones that existed were hated and hunted down. Damphirs are known for going crazy and having insane fits of rage, a characteristic that definitely doesn't help othe Vamps to warm up to Dorina.
Dorina is an amazing character. She is incredibly strong and relentless when going after something she wants. She is extremely loyal and does whatever it takes to protect the ones she loves.
It was so great to find out more about the mysterious vamp Mircea, Dorina's father, and learn that there is so much we don't know. I love the way their relationship is evolving and I can't wait to read more about it.
The Delish Louis-Cesare is back and OMG he brings out the hotness to a new level. The chemistry between him and Dorina is so amazing that it got my computer screen sizzling hehe.
The plot in this book was awesome and it was so action packed that I could not put it down for a second. The balance between romance and action is spot on and leaves nothing to be desired.
If you haven't read this series yet, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
This is really a must read!
I give it 5/5 Loveys!
Smut Level 4/5!
Thanks for tuning in and I'll see you soon!

Did you read Karen Chance's latest post on her website? Under the 'news' section she says that due to illness her publishers are pushing Cassie book #5 to Summer 2011!

Larissa, got the book in the mail yesterday so will come back and read your review after reading the book. I did skim it and totally agree that even though I am still a Cassie Palmer fan, Dorina has captured my loyalty and at this point edged out in front just a little as my favorite.
