Hi everyone! Welcome to Day #7 of Demonica Week! I'm sad to say it's the last day, but I am so happy about this week and your response. You guys are amazing and I can't believe I'm almost at 300 followers. YOU ROCK!
It's the last day and a very spacial one at that... Today I have an Interview with the amazing Larissa Ione. She has been incredible all week and was kind enough to answer my questions...
and she is even more incredible, because she will be checking in all day to answer YOUR questions! So, don't forget to leave your Q's on the comments!!!
On with the Interview then...
Q: When did you first start writing?
A: From the moment I learned the alphabet, really. But even before that, I had a vivid imagination, and I was always making up stories in my head.
Q: Have you always been interested in Romance?
A: Actually…no. When I first started writing, I wrote tales of horror and the Alaskan wilderness. I read a lot of Stephen King and Jack London as a kid, and my writing reflected that. Reading-wise, I was on a horror kick for a long time, and then, in my early twenties, I moved to fantasy. Again, my writing changed, and I started writing fantasy. It wasn’t until my Air Force roommate introduced me to historical romance when I was 24 that I became interested in the genre.
Q: What about in the Paranormal?
A: Oh, I’ve always been interested in the paranormal. But for the longest time, it was hard to find romance that blended the paranormal with it. So I read romance – historical and contemporary – and paranormal horror.
Q: Why writing Paranormal Romance?
A: Because it blends two of my favorite loves! The paranormal and romance! Yay! I just love being able to create a dark, new world, full of characters who can be gritty and raw in a way that’s harder to do in contemporary romance. The rules are mine, and as long as I stay true to them, I can do anything in my paranormal world.
Q: Were there any Books, Movies or Writers that have inspired you?
A: Oh, several. Jack London and Stephen King were early inspirations, and later, Robert Jordan, Sharon Kay Penman, and Joss Whedon.
Q: What is your favorite subject in the Paranormal Romance Realm?
A: I have always loved vampires. Since the day I read Salem’s Lot by Stephen King, I was hooked. Vamps are da bomb! (That’s like, so yesterday, isn’t it?)
Q: The sex scenes in your books are so hot. Where do you get your inspiration?
A: Thank you! : ) As far as inspiration…I don’t really think about it. My characters are my inspiration. They dictate what needs to happen, and I just write it.
Q: Do you find it hard to write them?
A: Honestly…it depends. Sometimes, when the characters are really boiling over, the scene writes itself. Other times, maybe if *I* am not in the mood, or am under a deadline crunch, or am writing in the car with the famly…it can be really hard to write those scenes! For the most part, I find sex scenes to be difficult to write.
Favorites:
Q: Favorite Paranormal themed Movie?
A: Argh! That is a TOUGH one. But I’ll go with Poltergeist. Love that movie. I also enjoy Underworld!
Q: Favorite Paranormal themed TV Show?
A: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Which is weird, because I resisted watching that show for SO long! I didn’t start watching it until the 4th season, and then it was only because I wanted to watch Angel, which looked good because it was about a dark, broody vampire.
Q: Favorite Paranormal themed Book?
A: The Dictionary of Angels, by Gustav Davidson. So full of interesting information about angels, demons, fallen angels, Biblical lore…it’s just fascinating!
Q: Favorite Author?
A: It’s a toss-up between Robert Jordan and Sharon Kay Penman
Q: Favorite Paranormal Romance Author?
A: Oh, man…I can’t name just one! I have so many! But I’ll list what I have on my bedside table right now: – Lara Adrian, Gena Showalter, Kresley Cole, and Keri Arthur.
Q: Favorite one of your Books?
A: Larissa Ione or Sydney Croft? For my Ione books, I’m going to go with Passion Unleashed, because Wraith was so easy to write. The BOOK wasn’t easy to write, but Wraith was.
My favorite Sydney Croft book so far is Unleashing The Storm, because the heroine, Kira, was strong but sensitive, a total animal lover, and her hero, Ender, was a hard-ass who fell REALLY hard for her.
Q: Who is your favorite of your own characters?
A: Honestly, I can’t pick one. I love them all.
Q: Which was the hardest to write?
A: Eidolon.
Q: Why?
A: Trying to write a demon who had to be honorable and caring because he was a doctor, yet at the same time very logical about life and death, was really difficult. Eidolon’s book was VERY hard.
Q: What would you be if not a writer?
A: I love the job I had before I got published - I was a meteorological technician for the FAA and NWS. It was awesome – I got paid to sit in a weather office and take observations. During good weather, that meant working for about 10 minutes an hour. The rest of the time was mine – and I used it to write. Best. Job. Ever!
Q: What is your favorite part of the writing process?
A: Being done! What? That’s not an acceptable answer? Sheesh...okay, I guess my favorite part would be coming up with the first sentence. For some reason, I really like the way the first sentence sets the tone for the whole book, and I love coming up with it
Q: What is your least favorite part?
A: Writing the book! What? No? Picky, picky. You’re making me think... Okay, my least favorite part is revisions. I really, really hate revisions, when I have to tear apart the book, and one little change in chapter 3 can affect the entire book and cause a major rewrite. It’s nerve-wracking. I love the result, but hate the process.
Q: The Demonica series in your own words?
A: Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets E.R. Hot vamps, werewolves, demons, and fallen angels. All working together (and fighting each other) around a core group of wicked hot incubus brothers and a hospital that takes care of the underworld’s most dangerous. Yep, the term, “beside manner” takes on a whole new meaning at Underworld General...
Quickies:
This or That? This
Coffee or Tea? Coffee. Tea upsets my stomach
Up or Down? Down. I’m afraid of heights
Virtual or Real? Virtual. Give me a holodeck anytime.
Right or Left? I’m a righty
Vampires or Werewolves? Vampires
Angels or Demons? Demons
Reading or Writing? Reading. Without that, there is no writing
Q: Any plans for more Demonica Series Books after Books 4?
A: Yep! Book 5, Sin Undone, will be out at the end of August. I’m REALLY excited for this one. Sin is a handful!
Q: What is coming up next for you?
A: Book 4, Ecstasy Unveiled, comes out January 26. It’s got a demon assassin hero, an earthbound angel heroine, and a pretty purple color!
Q: What are you working on right now?
A: Revisions on Sin Undone. I’m also writing the sixth Sydney Croft ACRO book with Stephanie Tyler. Both books, as the last books in their series, are turning out to be really exciting and emotional books. I love them!
Q: Do you have any advice or tip to those like me that want to become a published Author someday?
A: Run! Run far away, and run fast! Okay, not going to listen? Then that means you want it. Badly. So in that case, just keep writing. You’ll get better with every book. Learn the rules…learn them, then toss them all out the window!
Q: Anything you would like to say to your fans out there?
A: *waves* I love you! Y’all totally rock. Without you, there’d be no more Demonica books! Every single purchase shows my publisher that you enjoy the series, and in this economy, I know how difficult it can be to part with your hard-earned money or to buy gas to make it to the library. I appreciate your support more than you can know. Thank you!!!!
Is it any wonder that we love her so much? Not only her books are awesome, she is a great person too!
Thank you for everything!

Hi Larissa *waves*
Is the 6th ACRO book going to be the last in the series???
Great interview! HAHA at Vamps are so yesterday! ;) I'm still going strong with them! :)
Great interview! I can't believe book 4 isn't out yet and she's already teasing us with book 5!!!
Seriously,congratulations on your release; I can't wait!
Great interview! Larissa Ione is brilliant =)
Great interview :o) You came up with some fab questions Larissa & Larissa you came up with great answers (2 Larissa's gets very confusing lol!!)
I have really enjoyed Demonica week. I was completely new to this series at the start (well I'd read a few great reviews & the books were on my wish list but I didn't know much about them) but all this talk of the books convinced me I've got to have them. I ordered the 1st book today woohoo!! Can't wait for it to arrive :o)
Awesome interview and I can't wait to start your Demonica series!
you asked the best questions larissa! great interview!!
i can't wait for sin undone!! and yay! it's coming in august already :-D
i loved watching buffy too but i caught the tail end of it around the time she's with reilly so i kinda always wanted them to be together--maybe i'd change my mind if i saw her with angel. thanks for the interview ms. ione :)
Great interview. Very fun and interesting. You really came up with some great and different questions.
Great interview! I can imagine how the revisions part of the writing process would be the hardest, especially when someone else is telling you you need to make changes.
You seem pretty well rounded, but is there a genre you absolutely would NOT want to write?
I am so happy and proud of you siwster! Great job with your Demonica week. And awesome interview too.
Where's our demon juice? LOL
Hi Larissa & Larissa :)
Thank you for the great interview! I enjoyed the questions & the fun & informative answers. Loved it!
:)
So dad this is the last day
wow awesome interview i already did all the fun cool things to do to win lol but i have to say im a huge fan of king so its amazing how many romance authors write first and how larissa did it with his genera in mind kudos for that now that yoru a romance author its double bonus really
my question is how do you feel about some ppl judging the covers since alot of your covers r smoken hot i have to say my fiance braught it to my attention that when he reads a blurb and such then sees the covers sometimes a good blurb gets shot down by him because of a cover
I know the addagde never judge a book by its cover but some times people are really old fashioned
Great interview. Nice to see a diverse range of questions asked!
As for my question to Larissa...
How do you come up with character names? Do you look at the actual meaning of the name, or does it just sound right for the character?
(I haven't read this series YET, but I hope to soon =])
This was a great interview! I really can't wait until I can start this series! This whole week has been awesome Larissa and Larissa!
GREAT interview!!! I really enjoyed reading it! :)
Very nice interview :D!
Since i havent read the series (YET!) i dont know what to ask about the series, so ill go for a more general question...
Did you have problems when you wanted to publish your first book? Was it hard to find some publishing company interested in it?
*waves* hi Larissa
*squuueee* fan moment....fan moment
*breath* ok better now!!!
Great interview!!! Thank you for sharing!
My questions
1~ are any part of any of your characters taken fromm people in your life?
2~ If you could get sucked into any book/series which would it be , and why?
Thank again for takin the time to chat with us!!!!
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
*waves madly*
Hi HI! Love the blog and love the books! I read all three of them in less than a month and I think they just keep getting better! *bounces excitedly*
Hi *waves*
I haven't read any of the series but reading your posts and interviews this week has moved it way up my list!
Great Interview, I can't wait to get started into the series.
Dang, I forgot to ask away before! But I've thought of one now. :D
Larissa - Do you come up with the title of your books before you even begin, midway through or after you've completed it? Or is it different for every book you write?
Thanks much! :P
Hi everyone!!!
I'm so sad that it's the last day. :( I've had so much fun, and Larissa is just THE BEST!!!
And to everyone who has bought or borrowed a Demonica book because of Demonica week...THANK YOU! I hope you enjoy them!
Okay, to answer some questions (I'll probably do this in two separate posts so the whole thing doesn't get eaten.)
Stephanie G, yes, ACRO book 6 will be the last ACRO book. That doesn't mean there won't be more stories, maybe in novellas or free reads, but we're wrapping things up in book 6.
Elie...hmm...good question. I pretty much love to write anything, but I think I would draw the line at mysteries. While I enjoy medieval mysteries, I just don't think I have the skill to weave one together!
PeaceLove&Pat! LOL -- demon juice coming up in Ecstasy Unveiled! :)
SINn, covers...well, to be honest, I kind of judge too! *g* Really, it's the first thing that grabs me about a book, so if I love the cover, I'll read the blurb. Now, if a cover is less than attractive, I might be less inclined to pick it up, but if I do, I read the blurb and decide. I don't think a cover has ever affected my decision to buy or not, but it has affected my decision to pick up a book in the first place, so I figure others will do the same. I've gotten lucky with really great covers!
Okay, answering questions, second post:
Aye.Me?, names...well, I actually do both! Sometimes I pick names just because I like them and they fit the characters. Tayla, for example. I love that name and was waiting for exactly the right character. Same with Kynan. But with Gem, I chose it because of the meaning -- Gemella means "twin."
Most of my paranormal names are definitely chosen carefully, by meaning. Eidolon, Shade, and Wraith are all some form of ghost or apparition, and I wanted something that would tie them all together.
Beleth, I have to say, I was VERY lucky with my publication story for the Demonica series. My agent sent it out, and we had an offer right away. We had a choice between two publishers, and I chose Warner (which is now Grand Central Publishing.) I've never regretted that decision. They are absolutely amazing and supportive, and I love them!
Hi Jojo! *waves* You always crack me up! And damn you, you make me think! *g*
Okay, are my characters taken from real people in my life? Well, my husband likes to think I based Wraith on him! *rolls eyes* But really...I don't think so. I sometimes give them names from people in my life -- I have friends named Karen and Robyn, so they ended up in Snowbound (the names, not the actual people.) So yeah...people in my life pretty much stay in my life and out of the pages of my books. Oh, wait! I do sometimes kill them off for fun... *snickers*
A series I'd like to get sucked into? I'd like to be transported into Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series (man, I'd love to be an Aes Sedai!) or Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series (gimme a Dark Hunter!)
Great questions!
INCiDeNT, ooh, titles! I hate titles! They give me SUCH a headache. Problem is, I suck at them, but I have to have one before I can really get started on a book. So I usually come up with a working title that totally blows. You know, like, Pleasure Unbound was originally "Demon ER." Yeah, I know. Big blow.
Eventually, my editor makes me come up with something else, which usually blows too, so we end up brainstorming until we come up with something less blowy. Heh.
Okay, I think that's it for now...if I missed anyone, please let me know!
And thank you again to everyone who has played along with us this week!
THANK YOU EVERYONE for the comments! I am so happy you enjoyed the interview!
I LOVED Larissa's answers hehe, she is hilarious =)))
You guys asked great Qs and Thanks Larissa for stopping by to answer them... besides having a beautiful name... YOU ROCK! =P
I am sooooo sad the week is over... but there's still time to enter and winners to announce hehe =)
Is it too late to comment? Thank you for an amazing week! Demonica is in my top 5 series! And I love the story that Larissa tells about being inspired by Buffy and Angel. I am a huge fan of both shows! Bottom line: she is an amazing storyteller and I love this series. Thanks!
I've had Larissa Ione on my TBR list put I need to move her up! Buffy meets ER - now that's what I like!!
Great interview!
HI LARISSA IONE!LOVE YOUR BOOKS! CAN'T WAIT FOR THE REST OF THE DEMONICA SERIES TO COME OUT!
okay true to this i have one question about the demonica series the others are usual YOU DON'T HAVE TO REPLY TO THEM BUT PLEASE ANSWER THE 1ST ONE!
1st. Is Sin Lores sister? You don't have to saw HOW she lived for so long if shes his half sister that means shes fully human-unless shes a ghost or a phantom!-sweet- or is she's a half Sem. Demon and her flaw(all halfies have flaws) is that shes a female! If so then I was right all along and can't wait to tell my best friends Bu-ya-ka-sha(dont ask im a very wierd teenager)
2nd.whats your favorite song?
3rd. I want to become a author one day, a paranormal author, and i started a book awhile ago-my question is what company is good to go for publishing? I would ask you to read my 1st chapter and tell my what you think but your a buissy mind and i kno its rude but i don't want anyone to steal my ideas of my dream Supernatural Universe. I can tell you won't but others i'm not so sure. Please answer my questions!
