“The night is not safe for mortals. Denise MacGregor knows all too well what lurks in the shadows - her best friend is half-vampire Cat Crawfield - and she has already lost more than the average human could bear. But her family's dark past is wrapped in secrets and shrouded in darkness - and a demon shapeshifter has marked Denise as prey. Now her survival depends on an immortal who craves a taste of her.
He is Spade, a powerful, mysterious vampire who has walked the earth for centuries and is now duty-bound to protect this endangered, alluring human - even if it means destroying his own kind. Denise may arouse his deepest hungers, but Spade knows he must fight his urge to have her as they face the demon nightmare together...
Because once the first drop of crimson falls, they will both be lost.”

First Drop of Crimson (Night Huntress World, Book 1) |
First Drop of Crimson (FDOC) is the first book in a spin off series by the amazing writer of the Night Huntress series, Jeaniene Frost. I am a huge fan of Frost’s series and am completely enamored with her writing. Her character and world construction is brilliant and every book she writes is just another master piece. Besides, the woman can right sexy like no other, chapter 32 anyone??
When I heard she was doing a spin off Paranormal Romance series, I jumped and pre-ordered the book right away.
FDOC tells the HEA (Happily Ever After) of Spade and Denise, two characters pretty well known to any fan of the Night Huntress Series, also known as The Cat & Bone series =) However, you can definitely read and enjoy this book without having read that series.
I have to say that i didn’t love this book. I really enjoyed it and it was great to get some more time with Spade, which is a very interesting and compelling character, not to mention, sexy as hell. Denise was never my favorite, but I ended up liking her much more by the end of FDOC.
I don’t know exactly why I didn’t love this one. It was fun, fast paced and a great read. It was great to see some characters from the original series, but think the beginning was a bit too slow. It did pick up much more midway through it and I did get to love it in the end =)
Denise has been through hell because of her best friend Cat and has written off the supernatural world at the beginning of the novel, she gets thrown right into the midst of it when her family starts to get killed by a demon. She then turns to Spade, who is Cat’s husband’s, Bones, best friend, for help.
Spade is a mystery and because of his dreary past he does not get involved with human woman. That is, until Denise enters his life and he feels like she belongs there forever.
There is a lot of action in this book, but the romance was definitely the best part in my opinion. I loved getting to know Spade more and seeing him and Denise fall in love =)

xoxo,
I'm totally with you. I 'liked' it, I didn't 'love' it. I was pleasantly surprised by Cat & Bones big cameo - that was one good thing.
I really, really want Ian's book now. The whole time I was reading 'First Drop' I kept thinking "why didn't she just write Ian's book first?" because he absolutely stole the show, IMO.
Great review.
I totally agree! OMG an Ian book would be freaking amazing!!! =)))
I know that their grandsire (why this name escapes me now, I have no idea) is the next in the series. Hopefully there will be an Ian one after that. :)
I still want him to dump Denise and try me! :D
OMG I do too!!!! Love me some spade hahahahah
an Ian book would be amazing! =)
I think I'm the only person I know who loved this one (I gave it an "A"). Even though it was very different from the Huntress books, I thought Jeaniene Frost did a great job showing how a real human woman suffering from PTSD would deal with a paranormal world. And I loved Denise and Spade together. I think one of the big differences in this book is reading something that is not in first person POV...it changes the immediate intensity of the story, but I still loved this one anyway!
Im glad you loved it! I do love Spade and by the end his and Denise's romance was pretty awesome...
I think you're right... the POV thing might have thrown me off a bit hehe =)
I really want to read this one!! Awesome review!!
Hmmm.. I might first try the Night huntress series before trying this one. Hideous cover btw. (please don't clobber me for saying so)

I didn't love this book either, but did love every scene Ian was in, especially a certain scene with a body piercing!
