Wow I just love a good mystery story and Dream of the Dead was a great one!!!
Detective Inspector Jack Ravenshaw is being summoned by the Scotland Yard to investigate the unresolved case of the murder of producer Charlie Maitland, a popular artist in London’s West End. Maitland’s family can’t believe the official police report that their famous and successful son committed suicide so they want the case reopened.
Revenshaw with the help of a very interesting Mrs Emily Hart must investigate the murder maneuvering between the obstacles of the police itself, the victim’s parents and the main suspects the victim’s wife well-known actress Georgia Foxley, her personal assistant, the housekeeper and the mysterious Dr. Slough.
In Dream of the Dead Revenshaw is a character woven with small oddities as is his reluctance to use “modern” cellular phone, secret talents as is his way of reading body language and a direct yet passive way to address the suspects. In few words his is unique! His past is revealed bit after bit and his future appears to be even more intriguing.
I particularly liked Revenshaw’s relationship with his mother Vivien and the storyline about their theater. Vivien is a very non- mothery kind of mother, she is witty a ruthless business woman and their relationship although it may seem detached it is deep and still developing.
Additionally I loved the London atmosphere, Jack’s walks around town and the way he sees the city especially near West End the place he grew up completely draws you in the pages of the book.
Overall Dream of the Dead is a compelling mystery book with twists and unexpected turns, I am glad I read it and I strongly recommend it!
