World After (Penryn & the End of Days #2) by Susan Ee
In this sequel to the bestselling fantasy thriller, Angelfall, the survivors of the angel apocalypse begin to scrape back together what's left of the modern world.
When a group of people capture Penryn's sister Paige, thinking she's a monster, the situation ends in a massacre. Paige disappears. Humans are terrified. Mom is heartbroken.
Penryn drives through the streets of San Francisco looking for Paige. Why are the streets so empty? Where is everybody? Her search leads her into the heart of the angels' secret plans where she catches a glimpse of their motivations, and learns the horrifying extent to which the angels are willing to go.
Meanwhile, Raffe hunts for his wings. Without them, he can't rejoin the angels, can't take his rightful place as one of their leaders. When faced with recapturing his wings or helping Penryn survive, which will he choose?
*Mild Spoilers
World After is a book I was highly anticipating, and when I got my hands on it I just couldn’t put it down.
The second book in the ” Penryn & and the End of days” series takes place just after Angelfall ended, everyone thinks than Penryn is dead and Raffe has two giant demon wings attached to his back. The heroes of the Revolution have won the battle of the Aerie but they have not won the war. The angels regroup faster than anyone would expect and they are up to something more gruesome than before.
Penryn is trying to come to terms with what her sister Paige has become and their mother is….. well she is as crazy as always. The action of this book never stops and page after page Penryn is trying to uncover what the Angels are up to but finding that out isn't going to be easy.
What I didn’t like was the long absence of Raffe, we get glimpse of him throughout the book but we finally meet him almost at 70% but when he finally speaks everything in this book just clicks to place, with the first sentence that comes out of his mouth (which by the way is utterly ridiculous) you get the feeling that everything is all right again.
And the thing that I absolutely loved in this book is “Pookie Bear”!!!!! I loved the strength she carries, her will to teach Penryn and the devotion towards Reffe. A shiny piece of object with a warm heart of its own. A magnificent idea!!!
World After ends with another cliffhanger (have I told you that I hate cliffhangers?) but at this point Raffe and Pernyn are together and along with them comes an unexpected ally. I'm really looking forward to the third book and I will wait for as long as it takes.
