Buy This Book - Alone (Serenity #1) by Marissa Farrar
Writing a story about domestic violence cannot have been easy for the author and despite not being able to relate to how that feels to go through, I was near tears of concern for Serenity. How she believed it was all her fault and how I was urging her out of the door. I found I was turning the pages quicker and quicker wanting to know how she was.
The relationship between Serenity and Sebastian intrigued me even more each time that he turned up (when you read the book you'll understand what I mean by "turned up") and of course we know he's a vampire. Serenity doesn't know. But then she has enough going on. Sebastian helps her to see that leaving her husband is the right thing to do. Serenity isn't safe (spoiler alert!) even without her husband and she finds herself caught up in a lot more drama than she intended.
I really wasn't sure what to expect from this book and I was absolutely intrigued by each page. Horrified by the domestic violence scenes but more because I wanted Serenity safe, I found an immediate protection feeling of her. I hated her husband, obviously. Sebastian was the typical hero but with flaws, more real - I like that. There's a sex scene about two-thirds through which has been building and building, it works well and creates real suspense and well you know... ;-)
If you like your romance with a bit of drama and a whole load of mystery and suspense then this is for you. Got Book two on my must read list!
Thanks for reading, please leave a comment x x x
Hello, Sarah. Marissa and I used to be with the same small publisher. Hers was one of the first Indie books I ever read. I have thoroughly enjoyed "discovering" new authors and celebrating their wonderful works ever since. The fact that she was a buddy was a plus! I'm glad you took the time to share her work with your audience. Have a great weekend.

What a wonderful review to wake up to on a Saturday morning. Thanks so much, Sarah! I hope you enjoy the rest of the series just as much. Marissa.
This is a must read series. My favourite being Buried but I also loved the Dark Road by the same author set in Thailand/Cambodia. You can smell the spices and feel the heat it is so well written.
Cheers James and loving your blog :)
