Rose Hathaway has always played by her own rules. She broke the law when she ran away from St. Vladimir's Academy with her best friend and last surviving Dragomir princess, Lissa. She broke the law when she fell in love with her gorgeous, off-limits instructor, Dimitri. And she dared to defy Queen Tatiana, leader of the Moroi world, risking her life and reputation to protect generations of dhampir guardians to come.
Now the law has finally caught up with Rose--for a crime she didn't even commit. She's in prison for the highest offense imaginable: the assassination of a monarch. She'll need help from both Dimitri and Adrian to find the one living person who can stall her execution and force the Moroi elite to acknowledge a shocking new candidate for the royal throne: Vasilisa Dragomir.
But the clock on Rose's life is running out. Rose knows in her heart the world of the dead wants her back . . . and this time she is truly out of second chances. The big question is, when your whole life is about saving others, who will save you?
Join Rose, Dimitri, Adrian, and Lissa in LAST SACRIFICE, the epic, unforgettable finale to Richelle Mead's international #1 bestselling VAMPIRE ACADEMY series.

Last Sacrifice (Vampire Academy, Book 6) |
*Contain spoilers if you haven’t read the previous books in the series
To say that I had a lot of expectations going into Last Sacrifice is putting it mildly, but like my blogger pal Danielle from ALPHA reader said in her review of the book, we had yet to read a series finale by Richelle Mead and we had no clue what to expect. Happy-Ending? Rushed Ending? Prologue? So I went into Last Sacrifice blind as can be and came out very satisfied in a lot of ways and intrigued in many other.
This last installment in Richelle’s awesomely popular Y.A. series starts off right when Spirit Bound ended, with Rose locked up fearing for her future and a note from the recently murdered Queen Tatiana that just made everything more complicated.
Last Sacrifice is a race against time and we find best friends Rose and Lissa each, going through their own journey trying to make the impossible happen, all for each other. Rose is going after the long lost half-sibling Lissa might have and Lissa is running against the clock trying to prove Rose is innocent.
I loved every single minute of each journey and amongst such traitorous roads it was amazing to see how much Rose has evolved and has become an incredible woman. She makes the toughest decisions yet in this novel and not the least one of them is choosing between Dimitri and Adrian, which I’m glad is really her choice and not taken from her by fate.
Lissa was pretty amazing throughout Last Sacrifice and even though she has annoyed me a number of times, including the end of Spirit Bound, for most of this last book she was pretty awesome. However, she peeved me to no end by the way she acted towards the end of the novel and I am intrigued to see how things turn out in the spin-off series, which I am sure she will be a part of.
The biggest inconsistency for me however, was Adrian’s behavior. Yes, he is a very unfortunate situation, he loves a girl that he can see still has feelings for her ex-boyfriend and all throughout Spirit Bound he acted perfectly regarding this situation, letting Rose make her own decisions and being very mature about it all, even though it certainly went against his nature. However in Spirit Bound, Adrian’s behavior annoyed me soooo much! I don’t wanna say much anymore to avoid spoilers, so I’ll leave it at that.
All in all Last Sacrifice was a very fulfilling finale when it comes to Rose’s story, I was extremely happy with how things turned out, though it certainly wasn’t the best book in the series. There were a lot of things left up in the air and it was clear to me about whom the spin-off will be… I am excited about that, specially about seeing Rose again, even in the background.

xoxo,
Great review! I just had to skip some parts because I have not yet read the series haha so I don't want to bump into some spoilers :P haha :)
Thank you for posting this! I'm really looking forward to reading the series!
*FABULOUS* review!
"it was amazing to see how much Rose has evolved and has become an incredible woman." - so true. And the same can be said of Georgina Kincaid... another finale I look forward to!
I totally agree about Adrian. His ending felt a little sporadic and rushed, more than anyone else. But I hope... *SPOILER*.... that he comes back for the spin-off. That was the impression I got, and I can guess who his love interest will be... DUN, DUN, DUNNNN!!!
P.S. - How freakin good is 'Alien Tango'!?! Loving it!
Yay! You finally got it!
Great review... I haven't decided whether or not I believe it to be the best book in the series. Must reread them all I suppose to determine ;)...
Anyways, who do you think that the spin-off will be narrated by? At first I totally thought it was going to be Lissa, but the more I think about it, the more I think it is going to be little illegitimate child who shall remain nameless...
:)
@Moonlight
Thanks!!
oooh I hope you get to read this series soon... Its sooo good! =D
@Dani
Thanks hon!! Im sooo looking forward to Georgie's finale too!!
ahhahahah I can totally guess the main character of the spin off and I also hope she is Adrian's HEA!!! Great minds think alike!!
LOL Its AMAZING! =D
@Avery
hehe FINALLY! LOL
hmmmm I agree with yoou! I think it will be the nameless child... but apparently there will other POVs, including Sidney... so it should be cool =D
Really? I didn't know it was going to be from different POVs. Hmmmm... I don't know how much I would enjoy reading from Sidney's POV, she makes me want to rip my hair out sometime (but, I would be more inclined to read it is she was all googly eyed over Ian).
I would love to read something from Christian's POV though (could you just imagine what he would have to say about trying to fit in with Lissa in the court)?!? And of course I would love to read it from Rose's POV or Dimitri's POV, but I just don't think that that is going to happen whatsoever (***fingers crossed though***). And Adrian? Well, it might be kinda fun to read his POV too, but then again, it might all just be a hazey sort of "I'm too drunk out of my mind to comprehend what is going on"...
And I think it would be hilarious to see the inner workings of Abe's mind....
;)
I absolutely adored this one! A lot of people seemed to be put off by Adrian's behavior, but I thought it was very realistic. I don't think any guy who is in love with someone would be completely rational all the time when the potential to be set aside in favor of a first love is there, though it was hard to read at times. Absolutely agree with you on Rose, she was fabulous and has come so far:) Lovely review as usual Larissa!
@Jenny
I know what you mean... you do have a point!
Thanks hon! Glad you enjoyed it! =D
