Justine Jones has lived her life as a fearful hypochondriac until she's lured into the web of a mysterious mastermind named Packard. He gifts her with extraordinary mental powers-dooming her to fight Midcity's shadowy war on paranormal crime in order to find the peace she so desperately craves.
But now, serial killers with unheard-of skills are terrorizing the most powerful beings in Midcity, including mastermind Packard - and his oldest friend and worst enemy, Midcity's new mayor, who has the ability to bend matter itself to his will.
As the body count grows, Justine faces a crisis of conscience as she tests the limits of her new powers and faces an impossible choice between two flawed but brilliant men . . . one on a journey of redemption, and the other descending into a pit of moral depravity.

*contains spoiler if you haven’t read Mind Games!
When I finally finished Double Cross only three words came to mind: OH MY G-D! I was seriously in shock at how this book ended and I did consider stalking Carolyn until she told me what the hell was she thinking when she wrote it and how was she going to fix it.
Double Cross starts a few months after the events of Mind Games, our girl Justine is happily working on her normal relationship with now mayor, Otto Sanchez, and she continues to work for Packard even though she is still trying to find a way out of being his minion.
I am really trying to come up with a way to talk about Double Cross without spoiling anything, but it is really hard. Carolyn takes her world to places never gone before and she changes the whole games with the events in this book.
Justine goes through the ringer and things will never be the same after all that she has been through. We meet new characters, new and creepy highcap powers and the action is non stop. A story full of twists and turns that will leave you dizzy and craving for your next fix. The problems I had with abrupt chapter endings are over in Double Cross, so I can honestly say this is an amazing book and I am dying to get my hands on the next one.
Carolyn Crane’s creation is a must read for any Urban Fantasy reader out there. If you haven’t checked out this series yet, what the heck is the matter with you? Seriously!

Whee, I ordered the first book in the series a week ago and it still hasn't arrived1
After the reviews I have been reading, I should order the second book too!! lol
oh YAY! I hope you love it as much as me =D
Oh, I'm sure I will! :P
Based on your review, I read both Mind Games & Double Cross this weekend and really liked them. Though, i will say even though the ending left me with the same OH WOW expression, i was a bit disappointed in the last twist, but only b/c i really liked that character.
Thanks for the recommendation!
