This week’s theme is Favorite Genres NOT UF or PNR!

I am an avid Paranormal devourer reader, YA, Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance and anything that might fit in that category, but even a lover like me needs a break once in a while and here are some of the genres I usually turn to =)

Literary {S&M/Ms} Erotica

LOVE Kitty Thomas books and from her rec I ended up reading “As She’s Told” and Loved it as well!

Definitely not a genre for everyone.

 

Gay Romance

I am a huge Josh Lanyon fan and I’ll read anything he puts put, but his more humorous side is awesome and led me to L.B. Gregg, Score!

 

Contemporary Romance

For the longest time I turned my nose to contemporary romance, but I finally gave in and I am so glad I did!

The funny incarnations by MJD, Victoria Dahl and Alice Clayton are amongst the best!

 

Space Opera

Spaceships, Alien and Adventures Oh My!

 

Fantasy

Not to dis the Urban kind, but pure Fantasy will always have a part of my heart!

Snowball in Hell

I LOVE Josh Lanyon! I am a card-caring Lanyon fan and will hunt and devour anything he writes, so when I saw he had a title coming out in April from Carina Press I was stocked and when I saw the book was available on NetGalley I freaked hehe.

Snowball in Hell is not only a great M/M Romantic Thriller, it is a historical one at that and it takes place in the 40’s when coming out of the closet wasn’t something that a police officer or anyone else, would consider doing. In Snowball in Hell, Josh Lanyon was able to deliver a great mystery and gay romance in a very NOT gay-friendly era and he did such a great job with it that you can’t help but feel transported to that time.

How can you write a romance in a time when it wasn’t even conceivable to accept two men falling in love? Lanyon has done it and the frustration of unresolved feeling, urges and wants is as much of a character in this novel as Nathan Doyle and Matthew Spain.

Two men with very different pasts, Matt and Doyle find themselves in midst of a murder investigation, with Doyle being a suspect and Matt trying to catch the bad guy. These two different men have something in common, their immediate magnetic attraction to each other that is so hard to ignore and that both are afraid to deal with.

Snowball in Hell is a Historical Thriller, but first and foremost is a love story that if dependant on the society it takes place, would never happen. However, this story has defied time and beliefs by bringing together two men that needed each other to feel whole in a beautiful tale of murder, fear, prejudice and love.

If I have one complain is that I wanted more! Snowball in Hell could have been longer and I would have been extremely happy. All in all, if the only complaint one has of a book is that you wanted to read more, it definitely should bode well that it is a worthwhile story. I say, it absolutely is and if you are an M/M Romance fan or a Josh Lanyon fan, you should check this one out!

- What is your favorite part of the writing process?

 I love the writing process. There's not a lot about it I don't love, although I guess I've been doing it for long enough that I don't take a particularly romantic view of it. At the moment the thing I most appreciate is the fact that it allows me to make my own hours and my own schedule, and that I work for myself. As insecure a business as it is, in this economy it's a relief to know that I'm not dependent on anyone but myself.

- What is your least favorite part?

Deadlines. Granted, I'm not sure I would ever finish anything without them.

- Which Series are still writing for right now?

I'm working on a couple of series at the moment. There is the Holmes & Moriarity series, which is a comic mystery series. There's the Dangerous Ground series, which is an action-adventure series. There's the A Shot in the Dark series, that's a new 1930s series -- sort of a gay Thin Man series. There's also The Doyle and Spain series, another historical mystery series set during World War II. Snowball in Hell is the first book.
 
- I LOVED Your Adrien English Mystery series, any plans for at least a short story with Adrien and Jake?  

Thank you very much! There will eventually -- meaning, I have no particular date in mind -- be a short story or perhaps a novella featuring Jake and Adrien, so readers can see what they're up to since The Dark Tide.
 
- What is coming up next for you?

Lots and lots of stuff that I hope readers will enjoy. In June I've got a very angsty, romantic novel coming from Samhain publishing. It's called Come Unto These Yellow Sands, and although it's a mystery, it's a mystery from the standpoint of a character who doesn't like mysteries and has no desire to solve one. 

- What are you working on right now?

Right now I'm putting together a bunch of proposals for the second half of the year, including a Christmas story for Carina Press.

 - Do you have any advice or tip to those like me that want to become a published Author someday?

Sometimes it seems to me that every blogger and reviewer on the web is an aspiring writer! So I guess my advice would be to remember that there's a LOT of competition waiting in the wings, and that it's better to take your time and write the very best first novel you can. Ebooks make it possible for too many people to be published before they're ready. That means they get a reputation for writing crap and their careers never go anywhere. Take your time and write the very best book of which you're capable of writing. The world always needs more good books, and if your work is good, you'll find a home for it.

When I started thinking of the characters for this list, I realized that all my favorites were in a couple or will be in the future LOL. So, I decided to list them in pairs…

Adrien & Jake

Josh Lanyon’s Adrien English Mystery series

This was my first M/M series and I just LOVE Adrien as a leading man and Jake as the love of his life!

 

Warren & Kyle

Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson series

A gay werewolf in a very chauvinistic world, Warren is an amazing character that defies all stereotypes!

I love his and Kyle’s relationship.

 

Blay & Qhuinn

JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series

One of the most problematic gay couples out there and they are not even a couple yet!

Their HEA is a promise and I can’t wait to read it!

 

Jack & Damien

PC & Kristin Cast’s House of Night series

I have my issues with this series, but Damien and Jack are definitely a bright spot!

A gay couple in an YA series, so awesome!

 

Reader & Gower

Gini Koch’s Katherine “Kitty” Kat series

Reader is awesome! He and Gower make one of the cutes and greatest gay couples I’ve read in a book series.

Love them!
