Hi all! I am very happy to be participating today on Chloe Neill’s Blog Tour for her new YA release, Hexbound! I really enjoyed the first book in her YA series, Firespell, and Im really looking forward to reading Hexbound.

Chloe was super nice and answered some questions I had and that some of my tweeps asked, not only that, but she is also giving a lucky winner a HEXBOUND Swag Pack! Giveaway deets at the bottom of the post…

How did you come up with world you created for the Dark Elite series?

The idea for the series just occurred to me one day, although the inspiration for the various elements--the city beneath Chicago, St. Sophia's, Scout's  spells--comes from my research and interesting things that I run into on a day to day basis.

Are there any YA series that inspired you to write your series? Does you have a favorite?

I am a big fan of Neil Gaiman, including Coraline and The Graveyard Book. Unfortunately, I don't really have much time to read otherwise right now, and I try to steer away from reading YA books that are too much like mine.

Why Chicago? Is it hard to write two series that take place in the same city but still not the same world?

I love the history, the architecture and the food. It's not difficult because Merit and Lily see two very different sides to the world. Merit sees the entire city under cover of darkness. Lily sees the city during the daylight--but only really the underground at night. So it's not difficult to keep them separate.

Has you been given the "Key to the city" from the mayor of Chicago for all the people coming to look for Cadogan House?

Lol. Nope. I doubt Mayor Daley is aware of the books. :)

Any special reason for naming the characters as you did?

I search until I find the name that fits the character (and not vice versa).

Do we find out more about what Lily's parents do? What they are hiding and why?

How many books do you have planed for the Dark Elite Series?

There are currently three books under contract. Whether there are more than three will depend entirely on sales!

Any more plans to write any more different series?

I currently have two series going--the Dark Elite series and the Chicagoland Vampires series. While I have a couple of ideas for other series, I believe those will have to wait until these series are complete. I just don't have any more time!

Firespell (Dark Elite, Book 1)

Lily Parker lived a calm and peaceful life with her parents in Upstate New York. When their work takes them for a year-long sabbatical in Germany and Lily is dumped in an all-girls boarding school in Chicago, Lily’s life changes more than she thought possible. Her new best friend has a secret and finding it out might be not be as fun as she thought.

Firespell is the first book in Chloe Neill’s Young Adult series. I have to say I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, though I do think it will appeal much more to younger audiences. Firespell is a nice fast read that even though drags a bit in the beginning, does definitely pick up later on and can be very entertaining.

My favorite part about the novel was Lily and Scout’s relationship. They take to each other immediately and their dialogues and interactions make the book, without it I do believe Firespell would have been a much lesser novel.

I totally recommend Firespell to any Young readers that have a taste for he paranormal. I really liked the world Chloe created and I think it has a lot of potential, I’ll be looking forward to Hexbound next month!

Hey Guys! How are you all doing this lovely Tuesday? I am so happy to have here today one of my favorite new authors. Chloe Neill was actually the first author I ever emailed. I ran into her first book, Some Girls Bite, right when it was released and loved it. I emailed her at the time just to say how much I loved it, I didn’t even write reviews back then. I’m sure Chloe has no idea who I am remembers me fondly =)

Chloe is here today for a great interview and giveaway, so let’s get to it…

Chloe Neill: Hi, Larissa. Thanks for having me today!

Larissa: Hey Chloe! It’s My pleasure! When did you first start writing?

Chloe Neill: I started writing fiction around 2005.

Larissa: Have you always enjoyed Fantasy?

Chloe Neill: Absolutely. Piers Anthony was one of my favorite authors growing up.

Larissa: Why writing Urban Fantasy?

Chloe Neill: I love being able to make my own rules as I go. You can't beat urban fantasy for world-building opportunities.

Larissa: What is your favorite subject in the Urban Fantasy Realm?

Chloe Neill: I enjoy post-apocalyptic novels. I'm currently reading "The Passage."

Larissa: I just love the chemistry between Merit and Ethan, any chance we'll get to finally see them get together?

Chloe Neill: Probably Merit from my Chicagoland Vampires novels and Scout from my Dark Elite novels. I love Merit's sassiness, and I love Scout's bravery and originality.

Larissa: Which was the hardest to write? Why?

Chloe Neill: Probably Mallory. She's a bit scatterbrained, and I occassionally err into "airbrained" territory with her and have to pull back.

Larissa: What would you be if not a writer? Why?

Chloe Neill: I have a day job, so I'm already "not a writer." :)

Larissa: Do you have any advice or tip to those like me that want to become a published author someday?

Chloe Neill: Read and research as much as possible. And be patient.
