Not Your Average Joe by Nell Carson
Reality TV just got real in this Cinderella story about a factory worker and a CEO’s son… Jennifer Wright is finishing a long shift on the assembly line at Brickman Foods when she meets her newest trainee, Jason Baxter — only that’s not his name and she knows it. She recognises him instantly as Jared Brickman, internationally renowned playboy and son of the CEO of Brickman Foods, working undercover to film the reality show, Joe Average. Jared is also the father of Jennifer’s son, Chris, although he doesn’t know it. The six years since they dated have been momentous for Jennifer, but it’s clear when they meet again that Jared doesn’t even remember her. Jennifer knew Jared the boy — irresponsible and reckless. Now she has the opportunity to discover Jared the man. She’d like to tell him about his son, but fears his reputation as depicted in celebrity magazines. Is Jared an infamous heartbreaker, or is he the man she sees now: sweet, shy, and dependable — someone who can be trusted in her son’s life…and maybe even her own?

I love getting fun contemporary romances where the drama isn't dark but the couple still has some obstacles to overcome. Not much of a story without a couple of curves in the road. So here is Jen, a single mother doing her best working girl impression. It's obvious that her job is beneath her skills but she trudges along, enduring a sexually harrassing boss so that she can make ends meet and go to college at the same time to provide a life for her son.
And then walks in Jared!! He's assumed another identity because they are secretly taping a show at the factory where Jen works. All the stuff you already read in the blurb. Only Jared really does have a secret of his own, his own dreams for his future. He's been living a lie and meeting Jen (or rather coming back into her life) will make him realize he doesn't want to be the guy he's been pretending to be. But wait, Jen has a secret of her own!!
I was a little thrown by Jared not remembering Jennifer. It's only been a few years and if she really meant anything to him, he'd remember her, her voice, her mannerisms, just stuff that shouldn't be forgotten so easily. I don't know if his playboy ways have messed him up to the point where so many things about women just kinda get jumbled up so you don't remember the real stuff anymore. But he's cute and funny and sincere, so I'll let it pass. ;-)
Things resolved themselves at work and in the relationship so the whole thing wrapped up nicely. I was a little scared about how the big secret would turn out but it was all good. Fun story for anyone wanting a light read without too much drama. A lot of real-life scenarios kept this one grounded, which is always needed in a fictional romance.
