Psychic Powers in Shadows of the Past.
by Carmen Stefanescu
Many friends, readers and bloggers ask me why both Genevieve and Anne, main characters in Shadows of the Past have, what is usually called as psychic powers.
I, in my humble opinion, consider that we all have the potential to develop our psychic abilities and to use them to enhance our personal and spiritual life. Being psychic has nothing extra-ordinary or mysterious – it's a natural state of being for everyone.
From the moment we are born we have psychic abilities. The same with our other senses - taste, smell, sight, hearing, sensation. Teleportation of an object, aura reading, clairvoyance, mediumship, energy healing, telepathy, telekinesis, bodily levitation or flying are terms that are familiar to everyone. I have no doubt that each one of you has had the opportunity to watch, on Discovery channel, at least one episode of Dynamo the magician. A young British man who levitates, teleports and even walks on water, among other awesome things. If we take into consideration that we are all made from the same source and stuff, it means that, like him, we can all develop such talents, abilities if we choose to.
People ask me if I really believe in such things or just invented them for the sake of the story. My answer is, I absolutely do believe in the abilities my characters have, in a kind of sixth sense that makes us become aware of dangers or events that may affect us.
There are many people who consider that psychic abilities do not really exist and they ignore any form of intuition or impression. Haven't you ever sat quietly and, suddenly, thought about a friend, a relative and, a few moments later, the phone rings and that person is on the other end? Have you never had a kind of gut feeling that something is about to happen to you? Or you've felt the need to be careful? Have you never felt a slight prickling sensation at the back of our heads and turned around to see someone staring at you?
I can tell you that I had such experiences, premonitory dreams and feelings, especially in connection with dear members of my family. And this is what made me enhance my characters with such gifts: psychic abilities or extrasensory perception.
The special gift my characters, Genevieve and Anne, posses is seen differently by the contemporaries of the two young women in my novel. Genevieve is in danger of being accused of witchcraft by her country people of 1480 and leads her to a lot of troubles. While for Anne, five hundred years later, her abilities are seen as something, if not ordinary, at least fascinating and don't lead her to being considered a freak or a menace.
Of course, you'll find out what their gift is only after reading the book, Shadows of the Past. You won't regret it.
