Welcome to our first installment of my brand new movie column :)
I will be talking about a diferent movie and/or movie news every Thursday... So stay Tuned...
Deception was released April this year with not much ado... Directed by Newcomer Marcel Langenegger and Written by fairly unknown Mark Bomback, the movie only caught my attention because of its leading actors...
The main cast is formed by Hugh Jackman (X-men, The Prestige) , Ewan McGregor (Trainspoting, Molin Rouge) and Michelle Williams (Dawson's Creek, Brokeback Mountain).
When I saw the Trailer a little while back I was immediately drawn to it... It seemed to be sexy and thought intriguing... How could I be so mistaken...
Michelle Williams doesn't convince as a leading lady, a vixen for whom Ewan's character falls in love at first site... The whole thing is too forced and hard to believe...
Don't get me wrong, she looks great... However I do believe that
Natasha Henstridge, who plays a much smaller role in the movie, could have carried the leading lady role much better...
As much as I love Ewan Mcgregor, I have a hard time getting convinced by his portrait of the shy accountant... He tries too hard and that it's his downfall...
Hugh is a great actor and his portrait of the "deceiver" is this feature is not bad... but just as Ewan's performance, Hugh seems to be trying to hard and it just does not work out...
The whole movie seems to underestimate the audience... it has the potential to give us a couple of very interesting twists and turns throughout the movie... but the constant "tips" given during the story, ruins it all... and it gave me the impression that the director thought we wouldn’t be able to catch them and, that he felt he had to make it too clear...
I just felt that they thought I was stupid... and I really don't like that...
All in all I'm going to give it... One Orange Handcuff out of five...
